Well after 14 years I finally broke down and did it.

Now you may be asking WHAT?!?!?!?

SOoooo, Ill tell ya.

This followed me home Tuesday 15 Nov 2011

2011 Chevy Impala LS

Got a really good deal on it as it was a demo with 3600 miles on it.

This all began on Monday when I dropped off my 1998 Monte Carlo for service
It had a leak which turned out to be an axle shaft AND a lower intake gasket seals.
So I had it fixed.

Went Tuesday to pick it up and to get pricing on several cars to see what I could afford payment wise.
Well the dealer MATCHED the rate we we have got from the credit union and since it was a 2011 I got it for the same price I paid for my Monte 14 years ago!
PLUS they will be installing a remote start for FREE and they gave us 4 free passes to the local movie theater, a bucket with cleaning supplies for the car AND my first 3 oil changes, Mobil One by the way.

So I cleaned out Monte, said farewell and came home with the new wheels.

I do loves the new car smell and feel.

Oh, in case you're wondering it is a FLEX Fuel car. Not sure about this yet as I just filled it after 300 plus miles.
I also got a full tank o gas.

Bought it at Gary Lang Auto group in McHenry IL. I've had Monte serviced there since 2003.
Price was 18k by the way.

XM Radio and ON Star free till May 2012. Hands free calling $9.99 for 300 minutes.

WOW!  EEK!  That's a BIG trunk. I bet I could get at least 2 bodies in there. Or not.

I do like the lines of the Impala.

This will be my 6th car. All six have been Chevy's.

1) 1966 BelAire - Think QE2 size, 283 V8 2 sped auto NO POWER ANYTHING. Drum brakes. Miles unknown. Used, my dad got it for me.

2) 1978 Camaro - 350 4 speed. With the KYB Gas shocks and new springs in the rear I had some fun in da corners. 70K miles. Used, bought it from my brother.

3) 1984 Camaro Berlinita - 305 auto, meh. 86K miles.  First NEW car

4) 1990 Beretta 3.1L v6, FUN little car. 116K miles. NEW

5) 1998 Monte Carlo LS Nice but under powered with the 3.1.  150K. NEW

6) 2011 Impala LS, 3.5l V6 4 speed auto. Time will tell.

How many have you had?

My wife has a 2007 Impala. My Dad has had a string of them. Seem like decent cars. I prefer something sportier, but the wife likes it. Hopefully you get 10+ years of reliable service like you did from your Monte Carlo.

I tend to keep cars for 10 years / 150K miles (more or less) once I started buying new ones. Went through several cars in high school/college. Seems I've had 8 so far.

1) Early 70s Ford Pinto - bought cheap, did a lot of ghetto body work and painted it puke green. Eventually dropped a valve, lunched the engine, junked. Got me around during high school.

2) 70s Opal GT (the mini Vette thing). PITA car to keep running, but looked cool. Lasted a summer with it but needed something reliable for college.

3) Early 70s VW Beetle.  Always ran, not always well.

Then I got a job out of college.

4) 1978? Pontiac Firebird. Nickle, dimed and quartered me to death for a year. No more domestic cars for me!

5) 1982 Toyota Celica GT. Stone axe reliable. Sporty. Traded when the body eventually started to rot out at 145K miles

6) 1990 Mazda 626. Another stone axe reliable car. Boring but functional. Traded with almost 150K on the clock.

7) 2001 Subaru Impreza RS. Not quite stone axe reliable. Had some sensor issues early, clutch sucked, blown head gasket (typical of vintage). 145K miles.

8) 2009 VW GLI - the sporty Jetta (sedan version of GTI hot hatch). So far so good. Rumor has it you don't want to own a VW that is out of warranty. We'll see...

Nice car!  Ironically, a few weeks ago I flew to Denver, bought a 2009 LT and drove it home.  PO was a retired dude that passed away in May, bought it from his daughter.  Still adjusting to the size, way bigger than my Camry.

My wife drives an '09. She loves it. It does cruise pretty nicely. Cool OnStar is bullshit. You can do better with any cell phone and GPS. The Missus also has no interest in XM radio. The only time we ran E85 in the thing it seemed to lose 20% of the power and economy. Thumbsdown
