I'm having an argument with myself all over the V7. I have a 50 hp bike and have made into quite a bike in my opinion. Take a look at the profile of the EX 500 listed in the signature. So who sells all the cool performance and supsension bits for the V7?

Oops where did my signatures go?

Extracting much more in the way of engine performance from a smallblock is very difficult due to the heron head combustion chamber design. Yes you can, but it is a LOT of work and therefore will tend to be expensive. After getting it to breathe better you then have to mess with the fuelling which while not impossible is more troublesome with the M15RCthan with earlier ECUs.

As for suspension? Racetech gold valve emulators for the forks and there are a vaiety of AM shock suppliers that will provide something that will fit. Prices vary from 'Bargain Basement' to 'Stratospheric'. The stock shocks are horrid. The fork, given that it is non adjustable and pretty basic, works reasonably but most people find the shocks way too stiff. They'd have to be the first thing to go.

As for really useful mods the one I always recommend first is a Guzzitech sump extension. this is designed to give you nearly and extra litre of oil capacity and especially in a hot climate this can be the difference between a margin of safety and running a big end. Especially if you forget to check your oil or do long stretches at high RPM in heat.

I've found the suspension to be fine for the type of bike it is.  Certainly wouldn't think it necessary to have new shocks lined up before your first ride.

Not saying it's unrideable stock, (I think the suspension on my Manas are far worse, so much so I'm throwing the suspension away!) simply that the shocks particularly are over sprung, (Unless you're a LOT fatter than me and I'm FAT!) and poorly damped. It deserves better, especially at the back. the front is 'OK' but I'm a bit nutty about suspension.

I just ordered new shock cartridges for my v35.
The oem crap stuff is 22 euro for a new unit at www.stein-dinse.de
Its crap, but better crap than the old ones I hope.
They have units up to 170 euro, but cmon... for that money I can get a whole CBR front end... Smile

This was my observation as well.  The front is decent but the rear seems overwhelmed at higher speeds.  It is possible my "suspension yardstick" was out of kilter as I had just come off an FZ1 with Traxxion Dynamics suspension. YMMV
