I've been working on a Grand Tour theme for 2012 and have chosen Waffle House to be the destination.

The concept for the Waffle house 2012 Grand Tour is quite simple; visit as many Waffle house locations across the United States and Canada during 2012. Riders will be required to take a picture of their cycle, & their supplied Waffle House Grand Tour flag, for each location visited. The cost to enter the Waffle House Grand Tour is $40, which includes your rally flag.

Riders will be recognized for many achievements, including:

    Most Waffle Houses visited
    Most states visited
Farthest distance from the rider's home city/state to a Waffle House
First rider to visit the original Waffle House in GA.
Most waffle houses ridden to as a SS1000.
Riding to at least one Waffle House every month of 2012.

Once again , The Rally has teamed up with 'Hoagy' Carmichael to support Hoagy's Heroes and his long distance charity rides philanthropy. All net proceeds will go to support Hoagy's Heroes philanthropy.

Visit www.http://therally.us/wafflehouse.htm  to register.

Very cool idea.  Waffle Holes are always bigh on my list of places to stop for a quick bite while on a ride.

I remember stopping at one in Northern Kentucky on evening when returning from a trip south.  Ordered my food...breakfast of course....had it gone by the time the "waitress" came around to refill my coffee.  Her comment was something to the effect that why had I eaten so fast, slow down! I explained that I had been in 5 states so far that day and was trying to get a couple more in before getting home.  She looked at me like I was nuts!  Never forget the look on her face as she asked "Why!?" One of those real " if you have to ask, you would never understand" moments.  I always think of that when I visit one....LOL.  Lol

Waffle House will always have a special place in my motorcycling heart.  Smile

Came home Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2008.  Every food place (including McD's) and many gas stations were closed, but not Waffle House!  I was able to get a hot meal in sub-freezing weather at a real restaurant (such as it is).  It was absolutely packed with holiday travelers, so finding a place for my gear was a challenge.

I love it! I'm in.
I did a tour with a band once and we decided to call it "the Waffle House tour". If a WH was nearby we had to stop and eat. Smile

I have a local graphic designer / printer working on the flag for me right now. I may also offer t-shirts for riders.

Several years ago, a friend and I traveled out of state on Easter for musical instrument shopping. We shared an Easter dinner at a Waffle House on the way home, in part because we were on the road and couldn't find anything else open. The waitress was friendly and welcoming. The waffles were waffles. It was a good day.

P.S. Is there any connection with the famous singer of the same name? Are the two men at all related?

Interesting idea... I've missed out to a lot of riding this past year due to life getting in the way...  Headscratch
This could help get me back on the road again and as well as getting my younger brother some riding experience... he is starting his moto life taking a Basic Riders course this weekend.  Bigok

The nice aspect to events like this is that you can participate when it suits you. You aren't tied down to a specific weekend. Sounds like a good option for you and your brother to consider riding together in 2012.  Burnout

According to the Waffle House locator, there are ten in the Phoenix area. Six have Phoenix addresses.

I ate at one in the Phoenix area (maybe in Phoenix) in 1992.

I think the closest one to me is in VA.

It's cool how they are at every exit on 95 S. Eat at one and you have an unlimited number of places to crap on the rest of your trip.

I remember in 2006 about 7 or 8 of us went to eat at the local WH (in Austin, TX). All but two of us got sick, I was one of the two. Been there once, never again. Denny's or IHOP is much better. Probably the dumpster behind the Denny's or IHOP is better.

Justin had the best idea for the flag.

I sorta have the opposite reaction to seeing a WH, I cringe and keep going...  Crazy

There will be some group Waffle House RTE events during this Grand Tour. Might even have an 'eating' contest to add some WH flavour!  Wink
