Triumph goes LED with Sympatex LIGHT jacket - Industry first
«

I saw this new light jacket in the latest issue of Triumph magazine. I have an older version of the Sympatex jackets - a top notch product already.
An industry first
Headlining this season’s range is Triumph’s Sympatex® Light Jacket – the first motorcycle performance garment to incorporate specially designed LED lighting technology, offering the rider greater levels of visibility on the road. The jacket is also a fully capable, top of the range riding jacket with great all-weather protection. Designed to provide increased rider visibility, the jacket features a series of front and rear LED lights engineered into the outershell on both the upper chest and back. Following 18 months of design development, including Triumph motorcycle test rider evaluation, the Light Jacket is a design innovation with real world riding benefits.
Developed as an alternative to standard high visibility clothing, the Light Jacket does not rely on a direct light source to reflect, as is the case with high visibility materials. The jacket’s light technology is user-friendly and can be switched on and off as required. The LEDs are powered by a small, lightweight rechargeable battery that has a run time of more than five hours and can be recharged via USB. The bright lights have been developed so that the angle of light does not impede the rider’s vision, whilst also being very comfortable and not emitting any additional heat.

Yes certainly shades of Tron. I think it's a pretty cool idea in high-viz. 5hr battery life is not so great, but maybe onbike charging could be possible.
It would at least make a great party trick!

The magazine article indicated that the lights were designed to not glare the rider. I hope they'd have some top baffles or something. Would be handy for finding stuff at night though.

You use a map and call yourself low-tech. I have to pull over to use the sextant. Cloudy nights are a real bitch.

And yes, Shah was way ahead of the curve on the LED jacket thing.

That's slick, but not a first, perhaps the first OEM labeled jacket with it. There is a guy local to me who made a bunch of them. However the cool thing about his was that he had radio transmitters on the bike. Hit the brakes and the back of the jacket lights up red with your brakes.
Hit the turn signal and your shoulder and elbow on that side light up amber.
Now THAT was freaking cool. I wonder if I still have his info....

I know Fieldsheer was going to do this 4 or 5 yrs ago.. The U.S. rep was here and Dallas and ask if I would try it out.. Then things went south for them.. I like the idea for the most part.. long as I can turn it off when I wanted to..
