Was thinking at coffee this Sunday that it would be fun to rate our coffee shops and have a secret code for each location.

We all know where we are going when someone calls an A list event at the usuual place.

Most even know where the A+ list place is. (yes they are different places.

We could rate them for: Indoor accomedations. Outdoor accomedations. Strength of coffee. Quality of preparation. Friendlieness of staff. Quality of other treats that go along with the coffee.

Then we could code them, like, this Sundays place might not have the "best" coffee but the accomedations are great for an indoor meet with lots of people. Their other treats are fantastic too. I might rate them a B+.

Mark, sounds like a good idea.

I do agree the coffee last sunday wasn't A+ but i had a breakfast sandwitch and it was very good.

I was at the Java Planet in Woodstock IL. and i would give it an A++.  Every time I've been there the drinks have been very good. Every time i get a mocha it is the same no mater witch barista i get.

I have called a couple of meets there but no one will cross the Cheddar curtan. (except lurker, Ben and Tod)

Did it snow there? Clearly someone has too much time for thinking.

Well, Portabella (in New Berlin, WI) has a ton of space, which makes for a nice indoor meet.  Their coffee is TERRIBLE, and the location, while super-convenient for me (<5 miles from my house), is not great for departing for a group ride.  My kids liked their treats, a cookie and a "sticky bun"...but hey, they're kids!  Staff seemed indifferent to our patronage.

I give Portabella a D for an overall grade.

In Yellow Springs, Ohio. Dino's Coffee House.  Bigok
Not just good coffee, but always cute girls serving it up.
The owner knows what brings in the coffee drinkers.
I give it a solid 9.5 out of 10.

I agree with Kris' assessment of the place.  Especially the coffee. I would say it's not worthy of a return trip.

Breadman makes a good point. A great spot is also a great starting point or destination point for a good ride.

Coffee is probably secondary, heck, I drink iced redeyes, what would I know of good taste.

Crossroads comes to mind as one of those great places for sure. Takes most of us a couple of hours to get there and usually results in an all day ride back home.

We need to find more places like that.

But.... for a non riding type type of event, places like Portabellas or Misses Sippys  works just fine.

So many coffee shops.

Mark  great idea but I think this is a near impossible task. There is so much criteria to weigh that ones favorite coffee shop is just that,
Is the coffee good (totally subjective), is it near good riding, can our flatland friends make it without too much hassle, if the weather sucks is there enough room for us indoors and most importantly are the barista's cute?   Lol

Now having said all that, I think the compilation of a list is a great idea and we can make up our own minds after a visit.
Maybe AFTER a coffee meet we could rank the experience?

Just to name a few, there's Leroy's on Ephraim Bay in Door County, Alterra at the Lake front, and Weather Center Cafe in Sheboygan. They all serve good drinks and their locations are prime. They also have drawbacks, Leroys and Weather Center are small, should the weather go south and Alterra is always crowded.

I agree, been there only once, but really enjoyed it.  They had live music out back the Sunday we went there.
