Hey Frenchie,

You can probably snag used parts over on svrider.com...   just saying.

Oh, I'm sure I could... And if I'd crashed it at a track day or something, I might.

I'm just amazed that the parts add up so quick.

At least you can actually get the parts.

You could easily just buy a used SV with less trouble (which you could fix) and be done with it.  Why the dedication to fixing this one?  You know who vandalized it? Something to prove?

It's a machine, get another one.  $3k can get you a hell of a bike these days...

Oh, I know exactly who did it. And ultimately, that person will be paying for the repairs, one way or another, all legal like.

Yeah it seems you could buy another well sorted 650 for the amount you're looking at spending.  However, if somebody else is at fault (insurance or not) then I would look at new OEM parts like you're doing.  If you want to get this done "legal like" make sure you're documenting everything and, if possible, have the police report.

You could also take this as an opportunity to upgrade some of the items.  Take for instance the stock signals, if you're looking at $120 for one set why not consider some Watsen Design flushmounts for about the same price?

Also, Hondaeasttoledo.com seems to have a little better pricing for a few items I compared.  They've got the front seat for $163 and rear for $164 as an example.

Legally the freak that did this doesn't owe you anything beyond the $2400 value of the bike. If you are insistant on installing new replacement parts you will end up paying the rest, and good luck collecting against a deadbeat even with a judgement. Personally I'd part out what's left and buy another SV, but I would find a way to get even - not so legal like.

This seems like it makes sense to me also. I don't think you'd get awarded that much more than what the bike was worth. I am not a lawyer though, I'd certainly ask one where you stand on this before racking up a big bill that you might not be able to be reimbursed on. Good luck with it all.

Frenchie,

Just read this..  Didn't know if you knew, mine was repeatedly kicked until it went over on it's side one night before the Denny's run this past spring.  I ran into much the same issues with parts as you are.
I did however get some really good pricing from a fairly local shop.  Track and Trail in State College, PA.
Give them a call!!  They cut like $15 off of my rear turn signal assy.  Also worked out discounts for me for the bezel, and the white framework that holds the speedo/tach.
As you probably saw during our outing in the spring. I tried to epoxy the rear fender, so I could install the new turnsignal, and it ended up breaking at the epoxy during the ride.  (Thanks Cablebandit for pointing it out to me!!)
Anyways, I'll see if I can track the number down for Track & Trail.  Doesn't hurt to try..

twood be a shame if that person refused to cough up $3k, and then mysteriously ended up needing $3k worth of dental work...consider it the occupational hazard of being a shithead. Wink
