Ahhh...memories.  Back when Upper Blackrock Spire was considered a "raid" and people regularly wiped.

Now Blizzard releases new raid content (patch 4.3) and guilds clear it in the first evening,   while finding exploits on how to duplicate epic drops.

How the mighty have fallen.

Not to mention the metric ton of people using the surname Jenkins in the game now.  Blargh.

That's a title. I don't think WoW allows surnames.

Yes, if I recall from my WOW days if you clear the Rookery in a certain amount of time you get the title?

Heheh, that brings back some memories.

I never played the game, but my take is that one guy is the sole reason they did the raid in the first place...that guy goes in too early and makes it FUBAR for everyone else?

Told one of the guys in karate he should shout that out instead of kiai-ing. He would not, but every time we were supposed to kiai I'd look over at him and then he'd bust out laughing.

Frankly, I like how the mass of the group "divine interventioned" their asses out of there and left the few remaining to die like dogs.  Lol

I don't think it was officially a raid, but everyone ran it 15 man back in the day (same with Stratholme?) because they could and because it made it doable as a PUG, and people farmed the hell out of it trying to gear up for Molten Core.  I ran it 5 man back in the day quite a ways in.  All it takes is a good group with good tactics and crowd control.

I also remember charging n00bs 5g just to unlock the gate (back when you needed a key to open the gate).  5g a pop was quite a bit back in the day.  Groups would get a collection and look for people to unlock it for them. Bigsmile

Those were good times back in vanilla WOW...before the dark times, before the Emperor Lol

The gaming nerd is strong in me.

Just about every grouping MMO I've every played comes down to this right here.  Hell I used to 3 box EQ back in the day with a Druid friend of mine that also 3 boxed, and we could solo any major camp out there, simply due to that principle.  It's great playing with folks that know how to play, know their toons, and put the effort in to learn good tactics.  Sigh...I can't wait to play SW:TOR.  My group is going to be on Mind Trick...unless they put our guild elsewhere...but we plan on Mind Trick.

Maybe our groups will end up being deployed to the same server (west coast, PVE here). Lol  We would like to do 8 man normal mode raids towards the end, but we're all pretty busy.  My hardcore raiding days are over.

Just so you guys know how special you are...  If I were to use a translator to change this page into another language, it would be no more or less understandable for me than it is now.  It's very impressive.  I feel like the dork for not understanding.   Lol

You have no idea how deep the rabbit hole goes.  I'm a fairly mild gaming geek.  I love it but I try not to let it consume my life.

There are those out there that dedicate every waking moment (and relationships, friendships, jobs, sex, hygiene, etc) to gaming.  There are guilds (large groups of players) in mmo (massively multiplayer online) games who play non-stop, every day, all night, sometimes streaming their play live to the internet so others can watch it (or pay to watch it), trying to get world first kills on bosses (tough, computer controlled entities) so they can claim world bragging rights.  Some of these guilds (or players in them) have professional sponsorships.  Many of them admit that they will do/sacrifice anything to get world first boss kills.  These people fly across the country and have meetings.  Some of them are so influential in their said game that they actually have meetings with the game developers..not because they really have brilliant ideas, but because they are so powerful in the online community that they could make or break a game so the developer tries to be accommodating (EVE for example).  All of these games involve the transfer a in game currency for real currrency, probably in the hundreds of millions per year (if not a billion).

It's a sub-sub-basement culture that is FAR below what everyone knows about mainstream, casual gaming.  It's very interesting...yet somewhat frightening.
