Givi V35 Waterproof ?
«

December 11, 2011, 05:36:32 PM »
Just calling on Givi V35 hard case owners for reports of who has units that are actually waterproof.
Mine definitely are not. I found quite a lot of water in both my cases on a recent trip to the west coast. I got plenty of rain and snow as I took the route across southern Colorado. 3 days in a row, rain got inside. Soaked my clothes and other gear on day one. Dried them at a laundromat and packed them into trashbags. Subsequent day, the inside still got quite wet. Coming home, a few hours of rain got inside again. Washing the bike at home. More water inside. Been a very disappointed owner of the Givi cases so far. I need to use this luggage everyday for my commutes to work and back.
The gasketing looks the part, but I can tell water gets past them as well as through the mechanisms for locking the case to the tube frame (stabbing area, clamps and push button releases).
Who has better experiences withe V35?
Missing my reliable BMW System cases...

That sucks. Never had any of my Givi's leak, but only have had E series, not the V series. I was thinking my next set would be the V35's - but if they are leaky, that's a deal breaker. Don't have time to screw around packing things into baggies
. Curious to see if you were unlucky and got duds, or if others are having this issue as well.

Obviously, I won't recommend the V series to anyone. Maybe it's just mine and other people have had better experiences. Seems to me that the Givi cases are not as dimensionally stable as the BMW system case were due to the shell being thinner. This could be the issue with the gasket for the lids. Water getting past the buttons, clamps and stabbing mechanisms is another issue entirely. Bad design, I guess.

This is the first I've heard of the V series leaking.

I've got the V35 and have had no problem with leaks even after all day rides in heavy rain.

I've only had E cases from Givi but FWIW, sometimes if they're closed up in the mountains they can be difficult to open at low altitude later in the day. A nice, beer-can like "ssss" when finally pried open.
I think it's probably likely you got a dud set of cases, rather than the V35s being poorly designed. I'd look into exchanging them for a different set before making any quality judgement.

My E45 has NEVER leaked so much a drop through some pretty heavy day-long rainstorms. I love my E case.

I'd suggest a call to Givi USA regarding your leaking cases.

I have a set on V-Strom and went through a huge storm in the summer while crossing northern Washington state. My wife and I were soaked, however, the contents of the cases were dry. Call GIVI.

They should not leak. There should be a seal and I wonder if you are missing it. That is the only way they would leak. Check the seal first. It is all around.

Mine have been staying dry in the rain. And I often stuff one side to it's max with cloths on longer trips.

I've got V35s on my ZX-14 and after riding through many all day frog stranglers, nary a drop made it inside. I'd have no problems, based on my experiences, recommending V35s to anyone looking for a set.

Plus1 more!
Had mine for a couple of years with a couple of good down pours. No problem at all with any leaks. I would buy again but with the quick release rack system
