The Entropy Lab has no running water, and no drain.

The new KLR is filthy.

I'll be field stripping it to do maintenance and to get familiar with it, and figured I could clean it up a bit as well.

I've got Simple Green towelettes, and some Orange Cleaner towelette dispenser . . . . .

What do YOU use?

Works great.

Lemon Pledge is always good in a pinch too. I'll pack the wipes on a long trip.

For water, I use a cheapo 1 gal. weed sprayer with water to prerinse/rinse the bike down. Low pressure and not a lot of water on the floor when I'm done. Simple green and pledge for actual cleaning though.

Wash?

That's that thing that happens every spring whether it needs it or not.

I was gonna say rain... It's not a bad idea to wash occasionally. It works out to be a pretty good inspection of a bike. Oooo that looks loose... you get the idea.

Just wash the part you are working on with your wife's formula 409. Wives love the grease smudges all over their household cleaner containers. Especially good when you do the swing arm and dogbones. Those really get filthy. It is bad luck to wash bodywork on a dirt/ADV bike.

Now THIS has potential . . . .

The bodywork's already up in the rafters, unwashed, for that very reason . . . .  my wife's Dad rebuilt Model A Fords for fun, so one of the first things she did was buy the Lab it's own 409 . . .I am the luckiest of men!

Bomber it is a running X-Mas joke between my wife and I about getting a bottle of 409 in my stocking each year just so hers does not get dirty .

Make sure you pull out those dogbone bearings, swingarm bearings and steering head bearings and grease them in that KLR! Kaw is notoriously chincey with the grease in those areas on their dirt bikes. While you are at it try to get some in the wheel bearings too. I have seen them literally installed with a grease that looks like ear wax in their brand new stuff. If it doesn't have progressive or RaceTech  fork springs and good fork oil just save yourself time right now and do that too while the bodywork is all off it. You will like the bike much better.

Thanks, Bul! All those maintenance tips are invaluable . . . .

I'm sure the suspension upgrades would be aces, but I hadta pull the dough for the cheap bike outa the sky as it is -- no upgrades this year, but, you know, it doesn't really matter to me anymore -- I'm just enjoying the hell outa riding, and seldom find myself pining away for that next spendy farkle or upgrade . . . ..

Since Kawasaki and grease were mentioned above one of the great tips I've ever recieved is plastics Kawasaki Marine grease. That stuff stays put even when a bike is hosed off. That's if you ever get a hose out there.
