I am about to place an order here on either a Corbin, Sargent or I have just located a Saddlemen.

Any of you have any of the above? Comments and or pictures would be appreciated.

It seems that used Corbins show up for sale a lot, which tells me the owners aren't real happy.

Why not a Bill Mayer, Rick Mayer, or Russell? Those seem to have the most satisfied customers.

RE-EDIT: By the way, I was just over at fjrforum, and there's a gen I Corbin for sale right now if you want to go that way.

Corbin quality control is iffy (it might take real muscle to make it fit your bike), and after sale support is insulting.

I would look elsewhere.

YMMV.

The stock seat lasted me only 2 years. After 6 hours my butt would get sore and i would have to move around to have some comfort.

I to was looking at the Corbin but the one piece design was not what i was looking for and at the time there was the talk of Corbin closing up so i went with the Sargent and have never regretted the choice.

I got the Sargent in 06 and today it is just as cumfey as the day i got it. The sore butt is a thing of the past. 12 hour days are a pleasure. I have over 150,000 miles on the seat as of now.

I have been leaning towards the off the shelf Sargent so far.

I just can't get over the practicality vs looks of the others such as the Russels.

I am riding on the pan of my stock seat now so muct replace it before spring.

Not sure which Gen you have, but on my Gen 2 the stock seat with a set of beads over it is perfect!  I had an '03 with a Corbin that was terrible.  We'll see how long the stocker will last, after it goes away for good, I will send it to greatdaytoride.com and probably be even more happy than I am now.

Well, I never tried the beads, but when I hit the 400 mile mark on the stocker I was in absolute agony. I'd had a Bill Mayer on my old Connie and liked it a lot. Went with a Rick Mayer for the feej because he had seat pans in stock and I didn't have to go without a seat for awhile. Been happy as a clam with many long days over many years since.

Saddles are pretty personal deal, though.

the options from the OP are mostly (if not completely) off the shelf. you're trading one "average rider" design for another. why spend 80%+ of the cost of a custom seat when you can put that money toward something that'll make you happier?

on top of that, there's currently a group buy underway for Russells. google them on the forums and you'll find the current POC to get in on it.

as for appearance, your ass doesn't have eyes mounted on it. if the bike's for show-and-shines anything will work... go cheap. if it's for long miles, then put function over form.

I have a second gen (2006). The seat was pretty good up until the 40,000 km mark. The foam has all but went away now and I am sitting on the pan when I ride.

Seriously consider a Rick Mayer custom saddle. All day comfort day after day. Well built, great customer service. Lots of options  doesn't look strange. I've had Corbin (very rare and low), bill Mayer (slid forward a lot).  I will always go straight to Rick when I get a new bike from now on.

Actually look quite comfortable and yea I could live with one of these. I have sent them a request for a rough estimate.

Thanks!

I did a Russell seat. Totally happy with it. Now if I could something with my knees I would be even more happy.  Smile

I hear you about the knee's. If I don't flex around while I am riding, mine will actually sieze up until I can't actually move my legs.

Old age sucks I tell you.

This set up helped with my knees. Gives me a place to move my legs for awhile. Also helps cool the crotch on a hot day. The brackets are the "Wild Bill" highway peg brackets you can find on fjrforum. The extensions and pegs came from Kuryakin. You just have to make sure you don't install the extensions pointed down.

Spector:

I heard back from Rick today. Quite reasonable pricing. Actually less expensive that a Corbin or Sargent.

I will pull the trigger after Christmas.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have not found any bad reports on the net about his work.

I have heard the complaint that he can run behind on projects, so it might take a bit of patience.

Once you get it, though, I think you'll be really happy you made that choice.   Bigok

Having had the stock seat, then as a 3rd owner Rick Mayer and finally a Russell Day Long. If comfort is your goal and damn the looks, then anything other than the Russell is a total waste of money. Even being the third owner of my Rick Mayer though, it's a pretty comfy seat while still maintaining a passing nod in the looks dept.

I could ride, comfortably, about 6-8 hrs on the Mayer. At the end of 8hrs on the Russell, my ass is the last thing on my mind. Usually other parts of the body are giving out before my butt is. Knees, shoulder blades, eyeballs etc.

The stock seat wasn't bad but 3 hrs and I was done for the day.

I have actually done a couple of 19+ hour days. (Travelling on a long weekend without reservations)  Sad

But like I said, the stock seat's foam is collapsed.

I have actually almost got myself into semi athletic shape due to health wake up call, so things might be better this season. (Of course my knees are still screwed).

I thought if I placed my oprder with rick in January, he should get it done by Mid April.  Lol
