3rd time's the charm?

Well, steering lock went again on the Strada... Dealer's coming to pick the bike up in a couple of hours.

The new problem... Steering's not locked, bike thinks it is, tries to unlock it for 30 seconds, throws an error and kills the bike.  

At least it's winter.

Tell you what, the new Tiger's looking nicer and nicer...

This is your third time with the same error?  Is it just a sensor, or has something mechanical failed?

I'm guessing that it's a programming error. The steering's unlocked, but the bike thinks it is. SO... it's trying to unlock the steering, you can hear it clicking away for 30 seconds or so, the dash throws a system error and the bike shuts down.

Yeah, it sucks... electronic gizmos are great, when they work.

And when everything's dialed in, I do love this bike.

But, when things go bad, they go very bad... very quickly... and without warning.

At least I knew when the speedie needed help. It started misbehaving. The strada was running fine a couple weeks ago and then nothing.

I'm lusting after a newer more modern bike, but it's stuff like this that makes me love the old Connie even more sometimes.

When I had a similar problem, it was the result of a broken steering sensor.
I wish you a simple (and permanent) fix for Christmas...

On the bright side, the dealership was very responsive. I called them @ 4:30 on Thursday and they picked up the bike 12:30 on Friday, giving me an excellent excuse to sneak out of the office early.

I'm hoping for a permanent fix as well, hopefully in time for one last ride in 2011.

I predict a sensor failure or rubbed wire (grounding problem).  Good luck with this!

Lemme get this strait.  You're having electrical issues on the Italian bike and you're thinking about replacing it with a British one?

I'm not considering replacing it at this time. I do really love this bike. That being said, I've never had issues like these with the Triumphs I've owned.

New recall notice calling for the Hands Free ECU replacement. Parts on order, but Italy is out for the holidays. Will hopefully see my bike back up and running sometime in January.

I'm just glad it happened in the winter... time to hit the slopes and not worry about it.

yeah!!! 1 month without my bike.  

Tell you what... I'm wondering if this is what it's going to be like over the long haul of owning this bike.  Is this the passion of owning an Italian bike?! I recall hearing jokes about Jaguars (1 week in the shop for every 2 weeks on the road). I'm feeling this way with the Strada right about now.

Came across a Sprint GT this morning and am seriously considering doing a swap, then going and picking up a thumper to have fun with in the mountains.  

Truly irritated this morning while waiting to call the dealership and try to get someone to tell me what the hell is going on.

Bike should be coming home by the end of the week. Now I need to figure out if this bike is truly meant to stay with me.

Who knows, that might work... Apparently the language the ECU speaks is unknown to even Ducati  

After a month of waiting, they got the new ecu in and it doesn't work. They called Ducati and were told to order a couple and hope one works. WTF?!

Been reading up on the new Triumph Sprint... I don't need this finicky bike crap.

Time for my weekly update...

Spoke w/ the dealership this morning.

They received three ECUs in this week, as well as a call from Ducati asking about the email I sent to Ducati expressing my dissatisfaction with this situation and my intentions to abandon their brand if this matter is not resolved.

The bike's on the lift today... hoping (but not holding my breath) to pick it up this weekend.
