Oh look, post 1000. I guess if I kept spewing crap it had to happen sooner or later.
And, today, December 21st, marks my six month anniversary, since I rolled away from my house to visit friends before heading north.
I am in the small town of Copiapo, Chile. I hear it isn't on many maps, and I wasn't going to stop here. But I did,
All I got for Christmas was two stuck rings! (and early too!)
You may not return to your regular scheduling of coffee meets/tech support groups, and I will return to making snide comments.

It's going to take a little more than WD40 to fix that. Looks like it's going to need a piston, rings, and a cylinder.
Be glad you didn't snap a rod.

well, there is "fix" (dealership-level or better repair) and there is "fix" (get it moving under it's own power in the bush repair).
WD-40 and some wetndry may get it moving again . . . fingers crossed!

Mine doesn't look anywhere near as bad as Ed's. I have managed to free one of the rings, the other is actually more stuck and I am giving up on it. And I sanded and cleaned out the cylinder. Now, reassembly.

The bike is reassembled, though not repacked. I am going to let the RTV set overnight and see what happens in the morning.

I think that is more like ADVENTURE touring than sport touring. Actually used to see Bultaco pistons like that all the time at half-miles. Just get out the emory cloth and hit the spalls and high spots. LIGHT HONE on the barrel and a fresh set of rings. In this case hope you can clean out the sump and oil pump. Re-assemble and add oil as needed. And in Chile too! Probably crap in the gas leaning it way out is your culprit. Might want a peek in your carb bowl. Good luck.

andy got her back on the road today, got another 200 miles in. heading for santiago chile. spraying a little oil. dang, andy is my hero. only 3000 miles to tiera de fuego.

I've made it to Santiago, but from here the plan is plane rides for both of us back up nord. There is no way Curiosity (the bike) will make it much farther without a rebuild. I am planning on taking some time off to recharge and refill the wallet, then I can come back to Santiago and pick up where I left off.
That's the plan, anyway.
