We are here at the beachhouse in Baja, and I have to agree.

The temperature was in the 60s this afternoon, and I had to dither in my decision between short and long sleeves.  (I HATE that part).

It was a strange wind from the East, blowing spray from the incoming waves.

Tomorrow it's only going to be 66.  But not cold enough for a fire in the fireplace.

Doesn't this bite????

In the name of STN snobbery, I must point out that your screen name is "Shawn and Gwyn", therefore the thread title should read "We hate winter".

Now would someone please point out all of my spelling mistakes and obvious grammar errors.

And yet at Christmas we still sing "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas" and "Frosty the snowman" and "Walking in a winter wonderland" and "Let it snow" and "Jingle bells" ....

We hit 60 yesterday, on the 2nd day of winter. I know we'll get blasted with cold and snow at some point, but for now, I'll take the mild weather.

2 years ago we had 3-4' of snow on the ground at this point in the season!

I hate this poor excuse for a winter here in Pittsburgh. 40 and raining just sucks. Can't do anything outside in that weather.

Let's get below freezing and stay there for a couple months so that ski season can start.

The temps here should be in the 20's and snow. It's been in the upper 30's low 40's and no snow.

Yesterday it was 40 and i rode out to a buddy's shop to get the tires changed on the FJR.

On the way home i did hit fog, fogy mist, some ice pelts , and a few Snow flakes.

Christmas day it's looking like middle 40's and sunny. I'm going for a ride before dinner and football. I have never been able to do that before.

when we lived in MN.. we had snowmobiles.. sold them before moving out here. completely different kind of machine. out here i wont own one. there are no public lands you can ride them on close by, and the snow doesn't last long enough. so you have to trailer them up into the mountains to use them. and i have no place to store them .  now the weekend is looking great.. but there is so much ice and snow in the neighborhood. it will be sometime next week before its clear enough to get out. ohh well.. just have to do some work on Connors sabre and go from there.

Snowmobiles aren't worth the investment here as the season's too short and with the amount of snow we get, a 4-wheel drive ATV (with a winch for extra insurance) will get you pretty much anywhere you want to go for the month or so the snow's at its deepest.

You people are in Colorado and have a nerve to complain about snow ?  Headscratch

Get into downhill skiing , snowboarding or both . Certainly more fun then street riding , comparable to a  trackday IMHO , less expensive and when you crash usually does not hurt as much .  Bigsmile

Thanks for the thought?   Everything's good - our flight finally departed 6 hrs later than originally scheduled and we're now celebrating with family (including a 2 yr old niece and 7 month old nephew (whom I'd never met yet))!  It's great!

I kind of like it, to me it is better than putting with 90 days over 100 (most days 105-110) and 129 straight days over 90 and the night time "lows" barely get to 90 and then there is the lovely humidity to deal with. I will not miss Austin at all this summer, down there summer became my winter.

Is that a snowmobile?

Oh wait,

it's just an FJR.

I get those confused.

Yes, it was an awesome commute today. I'm just tickled to be riding steady right up and through Christmas for the first time i can recall.

Might have to park the Connie tomorrow if it gets cold after this storm blows through.  Sad

I really can't bitch as my last ride (12/23 I think) was right around 50F and that's beautiful riding weather, especially for late December in New England. I keep putting off the fuel stabilizer and other winterizing tasks pending more good riding days. I am new to heated gear (just a vest so far) and I am loving it!

I'm torn about winter this year. Last season, we had 15ft of snow in the hills and were ripping up the ski slopes. This year...nuthin' but rocks and dirt.  Sad

On the other hand, this has been the best winter riding in years. 55 and dry.   Bigok

I read through the thread and can't believe it... 3 pages and I'm the first asshole from SoCal to gloat?

76 today, will hit low 80's Sunday.  Chance of winter - 0%

Unfortunately, my favorite places to ride DO get snow, ice, and cold temps this time of year.  My sport riding is mostly done for winter, although I get out locally.  Not as much fun, though.

I don't know a thing about fuel stabilizers or battery tenders.  Never needed 'em.

Winter isn't too shabby here either. Bigsmile  The end of January is when it gets coldest in my area.

Had to visit a customer's drilling rig for work so I took the opportunity to ride the bike to the rig site since I didn't need to go with any field service personnel.  Went as scenic as I could given the time frame I had.  The 1st 3 hours of the morning was completely fogged over (45 deg) so keeping the visor clear was difficult.  440 miles by the tach or 404 miles by Google maps.  (Obviously, this is how our warranties expire too quickly Thumbsdown)  Went to school in Waco and haven't really been back in 20 years other than to pass through to somewhere else.  So I took the opportunity to cruise the vacant campus, go to the lake,  see if the martial arts school I attended was still there (it relocated) and just see how the town has changed.  All in all, a very good work day.  Got paid for 1 hour at the rig site and 7.5 hours on the bike! Thumbsup  I wish I could make my living riding for 7/8 of my day all the time. Headscratch

It's supposed to hit 60 degrees in Colorado Springs on Thursday. 50 or so in the mountain towns. Too bad there's a ton of sand and some slush on the mountain roads.

Times like this you have to be patient, my local club forums are getting filled with a post every other day about someone sliding or tipping their bike over due to slush / copious amounts of sand on the roads.

I've been able to avoid the horrid treadmill much of this 'winter' thus far. Greenish grass still; and there was lovely birdsong in the thicket along the little stream in the nature preserve nearby. This is very weird for NYE.  OMGOMGOMG

Below zero and icy as hell here right now yet I saw two guys out on trikes with snow tires yesterday... We do see a few Urals from time to time during the winter here in AK and the rare studded tire dirt bike or KLR. Met this guy on an R1 http://www.sjaaklucassen.nl a couple years back and his friend was on an f800gs riding to Barrow in the dead of winter. I'm really looking forward to this being my last winter here so I can start riding year-round again.

I've been riding 4 times in the past week.  125 - 200 mile days here in south west Utah.  Today, I went to Zion NP, among other places, and according to my FJR's thermometer it was 63º F in Springdale, UT (right at the gates of Zion).

Normally, this time of year (last two weeks of December and first two of January) is our coldest.  But not this year!

Supposed to be nice all this coming week!!

Alaska wins!  Crazy

High winds here, temps dropping, got a tiny dusting of snow. The hot tub will feel great later tonight when it's 16 degrees.

The big Conc's run my ass to work every day except two days last week. We'll see about tomorrow.

Calling for rain with a possible changeover to a freezing mix later so if I ride tomorrow it'll be an early
bail-out before the potential crap hits.

So that is just the suck. But I can't complain this year at all.  Thumbsup

Some enjoy skiing, snow mobiling, etc.  Personally, I like warmth.  I have old frostbite in my right hand and two fingers lose it real quick in the cold.  Screw that.

Took the XR for a nice ride yesterday in the sun- now everything is white and it's coming down fast...

Edited to add:  Snow day!  Time to get out the snowmobiles.  If I can't ride one I might as well ride the other.

nah... been at it for 20 years and the only injury I've had was a broken shoulder (although I did finish off a torn ACL skiing but it was a M/C that did the original damage). Our littel ski area is not tto bad www.terrypeak.com you can get setup good enough equipment for less than $1000 and a season pass is $280. way cheaper than riding Wink Smile  plus I never have to complain about snow Bigsmile

Got 2 commutes in this week, yesterday and today. Yesterday was a pretty good soaker coming in in the morning.
It was hairy getting the pig out of the shed, down the ramp and onto the dirt driveway as there was snow and ice all over the place from the weekend.

Today, it's just muddy. Bike is a dirty, filthy SOB. I was shut down on the bike for a full week and a couple days.

At least the riding has been good.  Bigsmile
