... I have a block of 5 days in the end of May.
Leaving from San Francisco to "somewhere".
What do you California folks suggest? I already did DVNP last year. Spent some time in the Santa Monica / Malibu area too.
Never did venture up north on a motorcycle. Or should I do a loop through NV's Hwy 50?
I will be riding my new KTM SD "sport tourer".

Go north. Redwood NP and Lassen Volcanic National Park are fantastic places to see. Dunno what the weather will be like in May, but it can't be too bad. It's California, after all.

Depends on how hard and fast you want to go. The Calif coast is beautiful. Head south from San Francisco and you will have a great ride.

End of May in SF? That's a no-brainer -- you come to my house and babysit!!
May will likely be rainy on the Northern coast; personally, I'd stick inland (though heading south on the cosst would probably be ok). The Sierra passes may still be closed, too. I love NV 50 but I have a soft spot for the desert and have been told I'm nuts.

May could be too early for the North Coast or Sierra. You could have a great time in Sierra foothills (aka Gold country) and/or Central Coast.

Yes, that is a nice route but I have done it several times. Looking for something different. Thanks!

No really looking for that kind of adventure. But thanks for the offer/idea? Miguel

The Sierra foothills are awesome! This may be part of the trip.
I think that I will probably head north. And then east into Nevada or into Idaho?
Thanks for the ideas all!

If you haven't gone north of SF, you should. I just went up Hwy 1 from SF back in June and it was spectacular.
There is one caveat: the weather.
When I rode up in June, it was late June (last week of the month) and it was cold and blustery. Even when the sun was out it was damn cold and windy. In the mornings it was cloudy but it never rained and didn't even have any of that wet morning fog. I was on the VFR and there were times when I was getting battered by the wind. Having said that, it was nice, calm and warm inland. If you are addicted to the CA coastline (like I am) it's a must-ride.
From SF, Hwy 1 is a nonstop smorgasbord of twisty road riding. Avoid riding up there on the weekend if you can.

I ride north of the Golden Gate often. But not too far north. Just 1/2 day Breakfast Rides. I may have to take your suggestion. I mean, like... jeez! I live in California and have not ridden the entire 1 yet?
Probably will ride north and then spend the night along Highway 1. Then go inland on either 299 or 36. Or maybe 3 into Yreka? The possibilities.
Need to figure out how far east I can do. Excited!
