So I'm thinking this might be the right crowd and place to ask. I need a road report for a slightly remote area of VA into WV. Hope someone might be able to help me with this.

Starting off on Rt250W just north of Staunton between West Augusta & McDowell. Turn right onto CR616 which then becomes CR612. Now according to Garmin Mapsource 612 will eventually merge into WV FR64 and run into Moyers Gap Road. Looking at Google maps they don't connect but I rarely trust Google for anything but major highway.

I know it's a long shot but can anyone confirm this?

That route sounds mighty familar. I've ridden the Moyers Gap area several times. I'll check my personalized maps of the area and get back at you. If I recall when I attempted that connection I ran into a closed forest gate and it looked like the other side had not been ridden in some time.

I may die with nothing to show for it but there will be a heck of a garage sale.

Found it. It was on a day I was working on an off-pavement route from Reddish knob down to Rt 250 (and no this is not my "off-road" bike LOL) I was coming down FR64 in hopes of getting to rt 250 and ran into this:

By my dead reckoning I was probably 3+ miles from the northern end of rt 616 at the time. This area is just west of Ramseys Draft Wilderness so blowing past gates would not be recomended.  If you head just a bit further west on rt 250 you can take Rt 614 which is a pretty nice road and cut back off pavement at Palo Alto to head towards Reddish knob arera.

THANKS WINDBLOWN!!!!

This just saved me some serious travel time to run down there and find out on my own that it would be closed.

No sweat.  It's not a bad ride down fr64, kind of fun, but it was a bummer not being able to go all the way through.

That section of Moyers Gap is gravel so conditions vary a bit depending on weather and the last time it was graded.  Usually it's in decent shape. If the desire is to hit Reddish knob and remain on asphalt there is only one way in to Reddish Knob (rt 924) and you'll have go out the way you came in.  If you haven't been to Reddish Knob be aware that the last few miles or so on the paved access road is extremely narrow. Not more than one car width in spots.

Hmmm maybe Reddish Knob will have to be explored next time down on my Husky.

I guess my best bet is to stick with more traditional highway in that area...probably continue up 250 to 28 then drop back down 33 eventually meandering over to Winchester for the night.
