I'm planning a trip for June 2012 and one of the days, we go from Ft Bragg to Medford.  What I need to know is what kind of roads there are from Garberville to Hwy36 via Alderpoint Rd, Zenia Bluff, Alder Bluff and so on; see map below.  FYI-we are all on FJRs, STs, C14s etc so we need pavement.

Easy..stay off Alderpoint Rd and you'll be in great shape  Wink  ..unless it's been repaved in the last few years, it's a pretty bumpy torn up piece of asphalt. It could be a great road, but it really needs a repaving.

Interesting. This was the route (Alderpoint Road) used on a Pashnit tour a couple years ago - it was the Backroads Tour which definitely looks for 'goat' roads. A Hayabusa, a C14, a Multistrada 1100, two 5th Gen VFRs, a Triumph Sprint ST, an ST1300, and a Gold Wing all were being ridden on this road (at various levels of expertise and speed). So your bikes can do this road. Just don't break the 'big bumpy, no brakey' rule and you should be fine.  DAMHIK Wink

Yes as heinee sez - it's a cracked up mess of a road - frost heaves 3 feet high (ok I exaggerate) - but it's kinda fun. I'd go back in a heartbeat as I have some unfinished 'bidness' there.

After an hour on Alderpoint Rd, riding a ZX9-R, I had had enough. Hwy 36 could not have been more of an oasis at the moment when we arrived in Bridgeport.
