Well I think the AMA needs to get it's program together at these races. At Springfield last year a guy and his 2 boys sat in front of me. They had not been to flattrack before and loved the racing but were confused by the program. They watched all the prelims and really enjoyed them . Then they left BEFORE THE MAINS! Why? Because they did not realize the races would take 5 HOURS TO RUN and they had limited time to stay...  The AMA really needs to address this dragging out of the program.

I think flat track is still racing for the sake of racing as opposed to racing for fan entertainment. unfortunatley one makes a lot more money than the other...

^This . . . . changing Flattrack into something more fan friendly would dramatically alter the sport .  . . . hard to say if for good or for ill, but it would be very different.

That said, Motocross survived similar changes, and other forms of motorsport seem to do OK without 147 heat races, so . . . . . . .. .

We've had a local "indoor Enduro" for the last 8 years or so in January. all the heats are run in the afternoon and then the big "show" is the mains that night. usually starts around 7:00 and is finished by 9:00 or so. the racers get all the racing they want and the fans get a good show that doesn't outlast thier enthusiasm.

check it out if you are in the area

There is no reason for a flattrack Natl. to take 5 hours to run. A lot of that time is just waste as guys sit in their leathers in blazing hot sun. Too much talking and too little racing bore the average American these days. Just no reason for track laps by Motor Maids, interviews with the LCQ winners, BSing with every spectator who put up a dollar, drawings, ETC. They need to get racing and then get us home. You are at an MX Natl for 5 hrs too....but they are RACING virtually the whole time.
