It appears to be a "rider down" app. Wonder if it's any good?

http://actionxl.com/CRADAR.html

Seems to make use of the phones accelerometer to identify a crash - and I'd suspect it would only be worthwhile if you had data coverage where you were riding.

The Android has an accelerometer?  Shows how well I know my phone.  Sounds like a possible app to have but I wonder what it does to the battery.

IF your screen orientation changes when you rotate the phone, you have an accelerometer.  Bigsmile

No prob - post your thoughts after you test it  Thumbsup

I just stumbled across it and it seemed interesting.

P.S. - And by test it - I don't mean crashing!

I downloaded, but I'm not likely to be riding anytime soon. I think I'll carry it around with me, though, and see what kinds of things set it off.

That's pretty darn cool!  I tried it out (not in the literal sense).  Turned it on and swung the phone in my arm with some force.  That was enough to trigger it.  It would definitely detect a crash, even on "low" sensitivity.  It sent a text message to my wife with a link to my location on the GPS map.  You can set the sensitivity, the emergency contact number, and the time it will wait between detecting the crash and sending the message.

I did not find that it canceled the alert when I moved more than eight feet.  In fact I walked a good 75 feet across my yard with no effect.  Maybe moving too slow?

It would probably take some trial and error to find the sensitivity setting that would detect a get-off without putting out false alarms.  Could be a problem if you were doing bumpy off-road riding.

All the same, great app.  I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work in a real situation, provided you have cell phone coverage and a GPS signal.

I would expect a crash would bust up the phone or knock the battery out of it.  It seems whenever I drop my phone the battery is knocked out.  Maybe its just my phone.

Mine has been pushed off the desk by the cat and survived.  I keep mine in the middle of my tank bag or top case on long trips in hopes it will survive a crash.  I also travel with freezer bags to put all the electronics in during heavy rain.  I doubt it would survive if left in a jacket pocket.

I was listening to tunes on my Droid Incredible when I crashed last February.  I had the phone in the inside breast pocket of my jacket.  I broke ribs and my shoulder blade but the Droid didn't miss a beat.

I discovered the sound track you choose to ride through city traffic is not necessarily what you want to hear as you're crawling to the curb after a get-off.

Fantastic. As one who has found themselves regaining consciousness down an embankment off a road that would be visited more by coydogs than other vehicles, I appreciate this.

Now will I overcome my Luddite nature and use it? Is it still dangerous if you've managed the risk? Headscratch

Just installed. It passed the drop on the living room floor test. Wink

Something like Montrose's Bad Motor Scooter would be appropriate for both... Lol

I'd be interested...but I don't have an Android phone, and I don't plan on getting one (actually, looking now to switch from my BB to an iPhone...).

Biggest down side I can see is as far as I can tell the GPS must be turned on, My phone won't go more than about an hour on GPS without charging.

According to the CRADAR site, the GPS is only turned on if/when the app is activated, it isn't always on.
