After seeing the pics of it all opened up like a can of beans, I'm not surprised they had to lop it off.
Too bad it wasnt the pinky finger instead, if you really had to choose one to get rid of. I think it would affect his riding less if it was the pinky finger.

man...Renfrow was a hard luck story...
to survive all those racing injuries only to die from falling down a set of stairs...just didn't seem right

I used to work in the Pulp & Paper industry, and it was very unusual to shake hands with one of the old veterans who had all of his/her digits or limbs.
It was a bit plus when Unions started the push to install safety guards.
