I have a 2006 Ninja 650. PO set up bike with a cigarette style MP3 power adapter.

My issue is: I cannot run it and my electric jacket at the same time without killing the adapter that goes into the power adapter. OTJ taught me that.

The electric jacket pulls about 7 amps or so. On/off switch for the jacket.

My question then: is their a different way to wire the adapter so I can run them both at the same time, or does my bike not have enough juice to run them both?

Generally, its not that big of a deal, but would be nice to use them both at the same time. Nice off season project to address, if I can.

Thanks in advance.

The mp3 player should pull a little over zero electricity.   Bigsmile

I'd suggest fixing whatever the PO did before the bike catches fire. firedevil

Something sounds very wrong with the scenario you're describing.

Agreed.

I presume you're doing a 12v power plug (cigarette lighter style) with some splitter (one plug, two outlets) to enable you to plug in your heated gear and your MP3 player.  If that device is buggering by both being plugged in, my guess is that it's defective or its internal fuse is too small for the total load...which is odd as the MP3 player pulls almost nothing.  It could be possible the adapter for the MP3 unit has something off about it and is drawing way too much power for what is needed, but that would be the norm for a device intended to power a variety of USB-powered devices but doesn't know what will be plugged into it.

I have had the bike for 3.5 years. Fire hazard is minimum.

The jacket runs off a cable off the battery. The MP3 hookup is separate.  I use the MP3 hookup all the time to charge my phone, but found out the issue in the fall when I had both the jacket and phone charging.

PO had a LOT of extra electrical stuff on the bike.

Basically, I was wondering if there is a different/alternative way to connect or wire the MP3 connector. The bike has about 10 amps total extra capacity. Jacket pulls at most about 7 amps, so running them both should be well within the limits of the bike.

It would help to have a better picture of how all your accessories are currently wired in.

I went to a Fuzeblock so I'd have an easier time.  It allows up to 30A draw and hooks right to the battery.

Without knowing what you're using, it's load and where it's hooked in, I'm hard pressed to explain WHY you're even having this problem.

UNLESS you have a problem with your heated gear drawing more than it should and the USB charger just makes it all go over the edge.
