Is the gas tank half empty or half full?

I've got one of those cheap aluminum/steel 1.5 ton floor jacks. (It used to say "Roush Racing" before the stickers came off).

Now, the problem I was having was that the jack wouldn't go all the way up. It also seemed to dribbling some fluid, thought I couldn't really tell where. I'd topped the fluid off a few times, but I finally decided to take a look and see where it might be leaking from.

So, I removed the actual jack portion from the frame, looked at it cleaned, it, and tried manually pumping it up and letting it down. No fluid seemed to be coming out.  I decided to just change the fluid (as at least one time when I topped it up I used ATF), so I removed the filler plug and dumped some fluid out. I put some jack fluid in, put the jack back together, and now it doesn't lift at all.

It won't move the ram out the tiniest bit. I've tried manually pulling the cylinder out, even if I 'close' the release valve, I can still push the cylinder in. I've tried pumping it with the release valve both open and closed, thinking maybe there was some air in it, but it makes no difference.

Anyone got any ideas?

The only thing i can think of is that there is air in the system some ware. Low oil would be the cause of the piston not fully extending.

I have a craftman 3 ton floor jack that's over 30 years old and have had no problems with it. A matter of fact i just used it an hour ago.

Just as a note, the jack never 'leaked down' on me before, it just wouldn't go all the way up,

But after replacing the oil, it isn't moving AT ALL.
