So I recently acquired a 35W HID bulb to replace the low beam on my Daytona 675.  I also purchased a http://www.amazon.com/DEI-528T-Pulse-Timer-Relay/dp/B0009IR4AC .  The idea being that you install the relay to delay the lights coming on until the bike has actually cranked.  This is supposed to be gentler on the ballast and the bike's electrical system since the lights won't come on when the ignition is turned on and then cut out while the bike cranks, only to come right back on again.

My problem is that with all the searching I've done, I still cannot find a clear concise write up on where all the wires need to be connected.

The wires are assigned as follows:Orange--87A Normally Closed, Brown--87 Normally open, Yellow--30 Common, Black w/white stripe--trigger input,                    Black--ground, Red-- +12VDC ground. There is also a blue wire that loops back into the relay.  The 'instructions' state: cut the loop if trigger upon negative going away or leave the loop in place if trigger upon receiving negative.

Here's my guess on how it should be connected: Red wire to ballast +, Black wire to ballast -, black w/ white stripe wire to switched +12v (ie. marker light or similar, something that is on as soon as the ignition is turned on). But what about the orange, yellow, and brown wires?  And do I leave the blue loop in tact or cut it?

Any help in getting the electrons to flow how they are supposed to is greatly appreciated.

Sorry, my reply does not answer your question as asked - but I just use a simpler method. I am not sure if your bike is the same, but when my start button is pushed, the headlight is cut out; and I also need to pull the clutch to start the bike. So, I just hold the start button, THEN turn on the key, then pull the clutch. The HID does not ignite until this sequence is done.

My previous bike was the same, without the clutch. Push starter button, then turn key - HID would not come on until the starter button was released. This is a much simpler approach than adding a time delay.

I'm not sure whether or not that will work with my bike.  I'll give it a try but I'd still like to know how to wire in the relay.  Anybody else have some know-how?

Here goes

Yellow to battery B+ (through a fuse would be a nice touch)
Brown to Ballast  B+ input
Black & White to the normal headlamp wire (stock wiring to headlamp) this would be the signal
Black to B-

THe Red has me a bit puzzled as you state a +12DC ground, so I assume a ground that would be switched  following the "cut the loop if trigger upon negative going away or leave the loop in place if trigger upon receiving negative" logic

Seems it would be a lot simpler if you just pout a standard relay connected to a "Headlight Off" switch. That way you could start the bike than flip the switch to turn on the HID lamp.

Thanks for the info Andrew.  The "+12DC ground" phrase is lifted directly from the little piece of paper included with the relay.
