This is a picture taken from a Japanese zero at the start of the attack on Pearl Harbor. If you look closely you can see 3 splashes of water near the middle of the bay and two lines moving from those splashes towards the battleships. The experts say that the picture was taken shortly after a Japanese mini-sub launched it's 2 torpedo's at the U.S. fleet. They found the sub in question and the torpedo tube where empty.

They never found a sub. Headscratch  It is believed a mini-sub was used in the atttack though.

When you say '$hit canned', do you mean that we made some, and our air force has them in active service? And that in spite of the DOD saying they don't need anymore, lobbyists tried to get money for more in the budget, but it didn't happen?  Headscratch

I've heard so many people say the F-22 got cancelled...but that's just dumb. We made them, we're using them. Actually, more are still being made, but once the ones that have been ordered are done being made, they're not going to make more. That's basically the way things work. I'm sure LM and Boeing would like to make more (because they'd get $$), but we've got a federal law that prevents exporting them (which sort of makes sense, what's the point of air superiority if we sell our superior aircraft).

Sorry, I got a little off topic, but I hope I answered your question, and that we all learned something about butterflies in the process.

They did find the mini-sub in question, along with all the others. (5 or 6 others IIRC )

Well worth watching IMHO; Killer Subs in Pearl Harbor

order was for over 200 to be made, just over 100 were actually delivered to the military.

think of it this way, best air superiority fighter ever produced (a role the f-35 was not built for) to replace a fleet of fighters (f 15/16)that in many cases are older than i am.  you want to fly on a 30 year old 737 or a modern 787.  i'd take the modern one.  and the point is that billions were invested into the development of the f-22 and it's now production ready.  the f-35 is several years away from that and will never be able to meet the performance envelope of the f-22.  so...several more million into a project or several million into producing something that we have and kicks ass.  oh, and if IIRC the f-22 was originally designed for naval use as well so i'm guessing a navy variant would be (relatively) easily accomplished.

my call...lets have both  Thumbsup

pictures...
