I think we can have a very similar version to this of: Before I put in earplugs and strap on a helmet or after...

Quote
A woman ran over a mattress on the highway and decided not to worry about it,
and kept driving. The ensuing jumble finally whipped around enough to tear a hole in the
fuel tank. The subsequent lack of fuel finally brought her vehicle to a halt.
She managed to drive 30 miles with a 60 pound tangle wrapped around the drive shaft.
She had it towed to a dealership and complained that the vehicle had a “sort of shimmy”
when driving at high speed.
Here's what they found at the dealership...

order was for over 200 to be made, just over 100 were actually delivered to the military.

think of it this way, best air superiority fighter ever produced (a role the f-35 was not built for) to replace a fleet of fighters (f 15/16)that in many cases are older than i am.  you want to fly on a 30 year old 737 or a modern 787.  i'd take the modern one.  and the point is that billions were invested into the development of the f-22 and it's now production ready.  the f-35 is several years away from that and will never be able to meet the performance envelope of the f-22.  so...several more million into a project or several million into producing something that we have and kicks ass.  oh, and if IIRC the f-22 was originally designed for naval use as well so i'm guessing a navy variant would be (relatively) easily accomplished.

my call...lets have both  Thumbsup

F-22 was always an Air Force only platform.  No naval variant is possible because of its tiny, girly landing gear.  Agree with the rest of your post, though.
