The Ninja 500 will be finding a new home this spring. I am unofficially shopping!! (So long as court on Monday goes OK)

So I said to myself- "Self" I said, "What shall I buy?"  Something fast me thinks.

 Lol

But seriously, that's an open-ended question. What do you want to do with the bike that your current one doesn't do?

I didnt ask any questions. Merely stating a fact. I'm just so excited I hadda tell someone.

But since you brought it up, I do accept change. Gimme your 2 cents.
I'm considering lots but leaning more to the sport end of things.

Well, how fast, how big, how expensive, etc.?

Any preferred brands? For example, I favor BMWs in part because my local dealer is excellent, but the local Japanese dealers are less so and there isn't a local Triumph dealer.

I'm probably looking between $7-10 K.
I didn't want this to become another "what should I buy" thread.   I'm gunna say an R6 is Probly right in the middle of the pack.

If an R6 sounds good, try an R1, not a lot of difference in noticeable weight but lots of get up and go.

7 to 10k puts the BMWs out of the market as well an a lot of new bikes.

Since you had a Ninja 500 how about a ZZR12 (great bikes) or a ZRX12  both within you $$ range

Custody and retroactive child support. The boys are better off with me. Every professional has agreed.  Alienation and all.
She says I owe her $113,000. The law (and basic math) says  it's $1500. Her lawyer took the company numbers added them all together.  According to their calculations I make 300 large per year. Greedy and stupid. They should have been politicians.
It all gets decided on Monday.

Not so!  The f800r new is within that price range.  Plus, you could find a nice garage queen that's a year or two old and save a lot on insurance.

But I think you ought to splurge a little and get a Ducati Panigale.

Make sure it's a Gen2 though, there were a lot of improvements in suspension, brakes etc. Mine is at 50k now without a single issue. It's been a blast. With a few little comfort mods it is a great touring/long distance bike.

Slightly used Duc 1198s from someone who just has to have the newest latest and greatest 1199 that Ducati just released. Not only is it fast, but also a great tool for the twisty stuff. Looks great too.

Far more fun than a Hyabusa. (Busas suck in the twisty stuff).

They'll be less than 10K soon enough... the new model is on its way (1199).

I paid $9600 + TTL for mine last October.  Not too bad for a new litre bike that MSRP'd for $11k, IMO.  The bags and heated grips did add another $1k to it though.

A 675 would be on my list as well as a 750 (along with the Duc 848).  Of the three, I've only ridden my 750.  I got my 06 in 2007 for $7000 US.  That should be in your price range.  But all the magazines seem to think these three are pretty similar, so I don't think you would go wrong with any of them.  One thing I really enjoy about the 750 is that it has some torque and I can wring its neck at times.  A friend of mine went from a 600 to a 1000 and said he really missed being able to hear the engine sing at high RPMs and shift.  With the 1000, he was doing 90 at the end of 1st gear.  There weren't too many places he could really get on it hard.  He ended up selling it and going with a KTM 990SMT.  Now he's enjoying revving and shifting again.  Just some food for thought.  You might not want to go too big (i.e. 1000).  My 750 is plenty fast.  I've taken it to the drag strip 3-4 times and done 11.2 and 130 in the 1/4.  Fast enough to warp time for me.  I know the magazines make it go faster, but there's a significant difference in skill level there.  The launch can be a bit worrisome  Bigsmile.  I about lost it once.  Rear broke loose.  I had visions of pretty black and yellow plastics suddenly not looking quite so pretty.  Kept it on two wheels, though.  At any rate, I enjoy the twisties much better--which is what the 750 is made for anyway.

Keep updating us.  I want to know what you get.  Happy hunting!

So my budget has been cut in half. The good news is that I still have a budget.  I can go $5000 now. I am actively searching but biding my time to find the best bike for the best deal.
I also need to sell my EX500 first. That should not be difficult.

I was leaning towards more sport like  a GSXR or CBR, but with my bad knees, I am going back to a Bandit or SV650 perhaps.

Bikes are like wives. My first one I was so excited to get. Rode the shit out of it, abused it a bit (but didn't tell anyone) and then got bored with it. My next one I want to keep around a little longer, but still dont want it to cost me a pile of money.

Maybe a blonde next go round.

In that price range, the ninja 1000 makes my loins burn.  What a damned sexy bike.

Personally, I'm looking towards a Tiger 800 in the upcoming years.  I commute on the bike (RARELY touch the car), so I'm ok with a bike that does great "real world" riding, with the capability of having some fun on twisties when I get out to them.  The Tiger with its fuel economy, and load capacity, seems to be an EXCELLENT candidate for long rides, overnight rides, and handling two-up/touring as well.

Or lately, I've been kinda eyeing the Honda CB1000.  Haven't heard much about it, but if you want fast, my old Honda 919 was a fun fast bike, and this is essentially the same bike brought back with some newer technology I'm sure.

2 things-  $800 over my her budget, and I'm not sure I want to go up to 1000cc just yet.

Yeah, funny that.  Bigsmile

I can understand if you're not ready for a more powerful bike.  While the Z1000 isn't truly high powered by todays standards, It is a high strung I4 capable of wheelie-ing out of every corner if not handled properly.

As for her budget, well, we could always chat about that.  Wink

I am in the mind set that I don't want more tham 750cc just so I dont get myself into trouble. I always said just because the power is there, you dont have to use it. I'm pretty sure I would try though.

In addition, there is a great deal of fun to be had with a less massive bike. Too many people think that bigger is automatically better. It isn't necessarily so.

Tru dat!  I really like the fact that my 500 is very light and I can toss it around easily. Even with the bigger engines, a lot of horsepower is used just getting the tank to move.  Another reason for the lean towards Gxr 600, CBR 600, etc.

Smaller bikes can be great.  I actually put a lot of annual milage on my 250.  It's all I need commuting.

It's more upright than a typical sport bike.  I find it comfortable.

Situation-  Met Zed and the Missus and checked out his bike. While they are great people, the bike just didn't feel right.  The Ninja went to a new home last night with it's new scratch. He was OK with it.
My budget got slashed again. Down to $4000 now. Thats ok though because I have a couple bikes on my watch list. I think I am going to go see one or two today. The one seller wants to meet me half way between our houses. Thats a good sign when they ride the bike to you.

On the list today is an R1 and a CBR 954. Will go look after the kids do the egg hunt this morning.

It sucks that your budget continues to erode.  Quick - get something now before you lose even more!!!

Is the CBR919 around?  Here in SoCal the Hornets are well priced.
