Kids are resilient. I think his parents had a dumb idea but he will be fine. He won't even remember it in a few years. I was going to have a organic vegetable eating health nut. No hot dogs, chicken nuggets and such. Boy did she show me.

Kids are resilient.
Not all of them. Wife used to work with a chick who spent her first 16 years of her life in beauty pageants, not by choice. Mother obsessively living her failed socially accepted life through her child. I'd never met a chick so messed up even 20 years after her pageant days. No self esteem, did all kinds of things to try and keep friends that only alienated them from her even more. Just made it worse the harder she tried.

How is this worse than raising a child in a religious extremist household, or many other things that happen to kids? Worse shit happens to girls around the world when they are beaten into being quiet and submissive property.
While a little out there, this woman is just trying to make her kid happy without limiting him. The article said she's stop if he asked.
It is worse. When you grow up one of these days, you'll realize that. While we're *sexually* gender neutral for the firs 7 or so years of our lives, we're also learning things that allow us to exploit the physical manifestations of our bodies, and to nurture those instincts.
Uber religious? Don't confuse some bastardization of religion (any religion) with mainstream religion. What you got seems to fit into the former. Hell, if you're walking down that road, then school has a far bigger impact than religion on 99% of the population in any non-third world nation.

Better than forcing him into being something he's not.
Really?!? He's not a fucking rabbit, and never will be one. By encouraging that, you wind up with something like a furry or Rosie O'Donnel.

So a furry is worse than a depressed teen that commits suicide?

You take some pretty big steps with that reply. I'd say someone who thinks they're a fucking rabbit is going to be a lot more prone to off themselves... or get snared.

Did you spray the neighbors porch? If so, what made you stop?

This kid is going to have it made when he hits puberty: raging testosterone and the ability to make convince girls that he's the only "sensitive" guy in the world who doesn't already have a boyfriend. He's going to get so much nookie.
