It's become an annual tradition to post pictures of the International Motorcycle Show in NYC, which Andy and I went to today.

I left that house at 4am to meet Andy and get the 5:46 train out of New Haven.  The snow slowed us down a little, but it also seemed to keep the crowds down in the early morning of the show.  Compared to years past there were a fraction of people in line at 9am.  For the first hour or so we had unrestricted access to the bikes.
As we usually do we headed to the Ducati display first.  We were the first one's there.

This year the hot bike is the 1199 Panigale.

By 1pm the usual crowds of pirates had invaded the show so we beat our retreat.  Good show this year.  KTM was a no-show, but everyone else was there.  Good vendors.  It was a down year as far as new bikes that captivated the crowds.  The Panigale was the closest thing.

Bruce, I went on Friday and I can say I won't be going again next year. There are fewer gadget vendors showing up year after year. If you have enough manufacturers close to you, you can have a cheaper (free) bike show. Thee was a 60 foot wide section going from front to back that was closed off right through the middle of the show and I think they still had room for another 2 dozen vendors if they had them

Interesting that you say that.  I really was not so interested in the bikes on display, I was more interested to see all the offerings from the vendors.  I typically don't care to check out bikes that I know I'm not interested in.  Sure I would have taken a look at the 1199 Duc but since I'm not a Duc rider and will eventually see one at my local dealer I could wait to see it.

I'm not saying that there are not bikes to look at - but for me more interested in trying on gear (I usually buy on line - and it is trial and error) and seeing new products.  I feel better knowing that I did not miss out on a lot of vendors.

Good job Keith. Sorry I missed you.  I doubt I would have ventured into the city with the damn snow.  Would have taken me forever.

Thanks for posting the info.

I elected not to go this year, mainly because I was in Manhattan last weekend.

For people considering going, the train is an excellent way to get there. The bus is also good. Then you don't have to worry about parking your car, or traffic.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr
This ticks me off! Mad2

The Dallas show was early in the schedule, No official Duc, BMW, Husky, or Zero display at all. I'm sure there were more, the Gear booths were short numbers this year as well.

I can only assume that they did it to cut costs, but why leave so much of the market untouched?
Isn't that what the IMS is about...

You can always go on the show website and see the vendors that are there ahead of time and decide for yourself.  It seemed to be about the same as in past years.  There were definitely less chopper and Hells Angelsr than in years past.  The section that was closed was for construction.  There was a lot of empty space near the food court.  They only had so many vendors this year.

As far as trying on apparel, the only big vendors I remember were British Motorcycle Gear and Gerbing.  I've never seen the big manufacturers (First Gear, Olympia, Aerostitch) in the 8 years I've been going.  One of the nicer features is having the factory reps from Arai and Shoei there.  You can get sized up and fitted by a professional and try on their whole line.

Thanks, I always look forward to your report.

I'm disappointed to see the larger Tiger isn't as dirt worthy as the 800.  It looks like the target was to be a lesser expensive option to the GS.

I'll post up the few I took that weren't the same as yours, as guess we like similar bikes.  Bigsmile

I liked the Victory as a full touring bike, but I probably won't get one unless I could have another bike or three.

If I had taken my family on the train, it would have been $500!  Not an excellent way in terms of rates, imo.  The ferry from Port Imperial NJ was my choice for convenience and parking.

Thanks for the pics!  Here are a few more...

Yeah, the numbers often work out better for an individual than for a family.

The ferry is another option, one I often forget about.  Thumbsup

+1.  Great first post, she seems nice.   Inlove

Thanks. She was great, my girlfriend recognized her. We heard her give a talk at the show about racing at Bonneville. She's also the slowest ever there (9 mph on a Ruckus). Hat's mine, although I bought a nicer black leather one at the show. It was cold and I'm very bald what can I say... my fedora would've blown off my head Wink

Press pass came in exchange for a blog post about the show. Wish they had paid for parking, yowza, $35.

Considering some rates I've seen, $35 is not a bad deal for NYC parking.

Nice to see another Eastern PA rider.  BTW - the links in your sig are messed up.

From one bald to to another I get the hat thing. Wink  A Yankee cap will suffice for me though.

Thanks. Think I fixed it. Not sure what the rules are (I'm new here). I have a load of pics from the show but don't wanna ruffle any feathers by posting a link. Is that encouraged or no?

I don't think it matters as long as you are not spammy about it, fellow CAD guy.

The pic of Leslie on the Ruckus was particularly nice.   Inlove

You can do whatever the fuck you want.  Just tell 'em County sent you.
For example, here's a link to polynesian transexual pornography:
polytranny.com.

(Don't click the link.  I just made it up and it's probably real! Lol)

Anyone else find the all electric Zero Motorcycles interesting?  I hope to try one this summer, but the MSRP is a bit high to justify going "green"

I thought the show was definately down from previous years years. The usual factory displays were there in full force as usual. A couple of highlites, Touratech had an awesome setup and a real nice bunch of people. It was their first time coming to the east coast Twisted Throttle also with a nice booth, they will be having an Open House in May in their new building in Exeter, RI. Finally got to meet Christa from Road Runner Magazine and her son Florian. Overall the vendors were down as everyone as stated.  Still had a good time and still worth the trip.

I went with Mark (scraperman) and we parked a few blocks away for free.  The show was nice, but seemed less crowded then last year.  Part of that might have been moving it upstairs where there was more space.
