I've seen a few of them running around Wilmo. A 4 door Porche is a crime against nature. It shouldn't be allowed to exist.

A VP here has one. Its always spotless and he drives the poo out of it (as it should be). I like it but not sure that if I had that kind of cash it would be my go to car.

I've seen these at the NYC auto show. I like 'em more than the Porsche Cayenne. If a 4-door Porsche is a crime against nature, then a 4-door SUV Porsche is MURDER 1.

I wouldn't go so far as describing it as a genital wart, but a 4 door Porsche SUV does seem a bit sacrilegious.

It's not an SUV, it's a saloon, AKA station wagon.
But I'd take it, and drive the snot out of it.

A saloon is a sedan. A station wagon would be an estate. Now, a shooting brake from Porche would be awesome.

All sorts of Panameras cruise around my 'hood.
Either C&D or R&T tested it at 3.3 0-60
So if you think you can take one on your bike, you need to be paying attention.
Funny thing is for putzing around the smart buy is the base model with the Turbo wheels. Looks just like the Turbo, but $80K instead of $160K.
And it still is a great car.

Not a "brake" in my book. If the roof line stayed higher towards the rear then OK. No room for the dogs and guns in that one.
PS- As a Porsche fan, that Panamera is as ugly as Rosie O'Donnell in a thong.

You'll have to buy the back-end emblems as well. This one clearly said "TURBO S". Those emblems gotta be worth $2500 alone, right?
You're not far off - Porsche nickel and dimes you for everything. Two sides of it though - if you can afford the car the options aren't going to matter to you. Then again - a car that costs this much should already have everything.
You can easily add $15k in options on cars like this.
Look at this option list:
http://www.edmunds.com/porsche/panamera/2011/options.html?sub=sedan&style=101336396&trim=base
Effing $245 if you want the Porsche crest embossed (not embroidered) on the headrests.
$1100 for illuminated door sill guards - $400 more if you want them personalized.. and even more if you want carbon fiber.
Red seat belts? $540 please! Another $865 if you want the paddle shifters covered in alcantara..

Mom's had an '85 944 Turbo, fire engine red, Black Recaro seats and a factory Blaupunkt sound system. It was pretty awesome. I had it for a weekend and a buddy of mine and me took it up on 81.
We had that thing ripped up to 115 MPH before you even knew it and it felt like it was standing still. Loved that damn thing, but an oil and filter change and basic service was $600

All sorts of Panameras cruise around my 'hood.
Either C&D or R&T tested it at 3.3 0-60
So if you think you can take one on your bike, you need to be paying attention.
You mean the Panamera driver is the one who NEEDS to be paying more attention. Most sportbikes will do 0-60 in 3 seconds without drop clutch launches. A Panamera will need a bit more skill than that.

Much easier to launch an AWD car with traction/launch control than a bike with one tire delivering power.

Nope.
The Porsche has launch control and an auto box, so anyone can repeat those maximum acceleration times.
95% (maybe more) of riders with superbikes would not get close to getting their bike to hit 0-60 under 3.5 seconds. Skill level just is not there.

95% is high. Most bikes that fast hit 60 in first gear, so its not much beyond not flipping the bike over with a wheelie. My FZ1 was tested at 2.9 sec per some magazine and I'll bet I did 0-60 in under 3.5 sec with some regularity and I'm no drag guy. Just need to make sure you don't do more than MAYBE float the front wheel a few inches off the ground at take off and you're there. Depends on the bike I guess....bikes with wheelie control and traction control can have their throttle cranked and voila - <3.5 sec.

0-60 ? who cares , 1/4 mile is waaay more important , according to C/D this particular Porsche takes 11.4 sec. to cover it , not bad for 4450 pounds station wagon but even FJR is quicker then that .

The problem with the Miata as a hunting truck is that you have to expect not to bring any game home.

Why not. Small game easily fits in the boot. Deer sized game easily fits on a rack.
The real problem is ground clearance. Momentum is your friend in those situations.

You are giving Porsche owners WAY more credit than they deserve. Look at who's driving these cars: Female trophy wives and old geezers? As far as I'm concerned, 95% of sportscar drivers already lose any stop light grand prix before it even begins. They look over at a sportbike and they know their chances of a win is more like 5%. So why even try? This is like saying the Porsche Cayenne can conquer the Rubicon trail (they have during testing). But in reality, nobody takes those cars in the Rubicon. I like the Panamera but I will put my $$ on the sportbike every time in any real world speed contest.

I am with one of these "cars" almost every day on my commute home (Blue Route for the OP and other Phlly folks)
I can say with certainty that my 2007 Ford Freestyle must be just as good as the Panamera because he does not pull ahead in rush hour traffic.

Undeniably a major performer, the Porsche factory version is an "acquired taste" design, that I think will age well.

I`m trying to approach it with an open mind but it is just wrong , an eye sore , something you get by looking at the front of s1000rr .
It looks like they cut 911 just behind the doors , moved the rear section couple of feet and welded additional set of doors between front and rear section .
Wrong . Maserati Quattroporte is beautiful , Porsche should have consoled one of Italian styling hoses , the end result would have been much nicer .

That's one of my biggest problems with Porsche. They're making everything look like a caricature of the 911 which makes the 911 a little less special IMO. The Cayman is kinda bad ass though. I can forgive that one.

I've never understood putting heavy-ass chrome rims on a performance car. More unsprung weight for what purpose? A nice set of sporty Falkens looks equally bad-ass and actually helps the car hustle.
I commute home about the same time as a guy with one of these and seem to see him at least once a week. He either can't drive it for shit, or he's just terrified to mix it up in traffic.

I was referring to the 550's history and lineage. It is a glorified Beetle, as was the 911. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
