Police charged a South Side man with animal cruelty after officers say they watched him take a running start and kick his kitten 15 feet to 18 feet into the air before raising his arms to signal a successful field goal.

The officers immediately arrested a laughing Percy Love, 22, after he allegedly kicked the small black cat Monday afternoon in the 6200 block of South Campbell, police said.

He told arresting officers: “This is my cat, Nightmare. He is tough, we play like that all the time. It’s just a cat,” police said.

Officers cared for the cat until Animal Care and Control workers took custody of it. Animal Care and Control Director Cherie Travis said on her Facebook page that, “Despite the terrible abuse, the cat (who the defendant called “Nightmare”) is doing quite well. He’s in medical today getting an exam and x-rays. He is a very friendly and affectionate cat.”

I wonder how the cat got the name of Nightmare?

I accidentally killed a cat on the highway this week, going 70 MPH at night, cat streaks full-bore across the road out of the ditch, I reached for the brake pedal and before I could even begin braking, I heard the whump-whump of the truck wheels hitting the cat.

I felt terrible about it. Very sad.

Ashville man accused of killing cat with log

A Chautauqua County man killed a cat by striking it over the head with a log earlier this week, state police at Jamestown reported.

Trooper Paul Anthony responded to a residence in North Harmony on Wednesday, after receiving information that Gregg Morrison, 34, of Ashville, had strangled a cat.

The trooper, after interviewing the complainant, witnesses, and Morrison,determined that the man struck the cat with a log, leading to its death, state police officials said.

Investigators could not be reached to determine whether the dead cat was Morrison's pet.

Morrison was arrested and charged with torturing/killing/failing to provide sustenance to an animal, according to police reports. He is scheduled to appear in Town of North Harmony Court later this month.

I'd like to hear his defense after he gets jumped in jail.  Police asking what happened, and Bubba saying, "Oh, this is my friend, Sweetums.  He's tough.  We play like that all the time."  lol.

FYI, I'm pretty sure most violent crime offenders start off small with abusing animals or the like.  Then it turns out they get used to it and search for the next "thrill", until eventually they become EXTREMELY dangerous to humans.  Glad they started nipping this one in the bud.
