I recall New years Day, 1984 when George Plimpton hosted a TV show about, well, the arrival of 1984. In the show, he concluded that Orwell's fantasies amounted to nothing more than paranoia. We should all just relax. It turns out Orwell was just a bit early with his prediction... and I'm not thinking in the main about Google. I'm thinking more about government; from red light cameras, police cruisers that can read and react to plates, detentions without trial, new efforts to read minds remotely, the Patriot Act and other anti-terror laws, etc.
