AT, did you know they "outlawed" all Red Light Camera's in California? The signs are still up but the apparatus have all been dismantled.

All CA? Are you sure? I thought it was just in LA that they said they were bogus.
Something about how a private company that is not part of law enforcement has no right to dole out tickets.
IIRC there are still lots of other towns that use it to generate revenue.
Doesn't really matter to me though. My thcooter is so slow that if I trigger the system by running a red light, by the time I make it through the intersection and the camera takes my pic, the light has turned green again.

Dunno about the red light cameras (which, BTW, are in use here in BC), but about a decade ago all our "speed cameras" were removed as a campaign promise, and they've not returned. Some info came out about how the cameras were much more expensive to operate than initially forecast (apparently, if you just set one up beside the road, people will vandalize it...who'da thunk it?) and anyway, in order to create the revenue the government was predicting, pretty much every driver in the province would need to get at least one ticket...

Don't know what the charge would be, but he also may not have been arrested. I may have spent a couple of occasions in the back of a cruiser, I have never been arrested.

They've dismantled the ones in the OC. Although I haven't visited every site in the county to check, I know that in all the areas I frequent that have had RLC's, all have been removed.
I read it recently in the OC register. Yes, it has something to do with the RLC's being operated by private companies that get a revenue stream from the proceeds from fines. This was voted illegal in CA. I haven't verified it to be 100% throughout the state though but per the article that came out about 6 mos ago, it was. Have you seen any still operating in LA county? RLC's are not the cameras on top of signal lights. They are those huge boxes with huge cameras that sit on poles by intersections. I'm sure you know what they look like.

Yeah I know what they look like. They have been 'banned' in the city of LA, but I'm not sure about places like Bev Hills (which is its own city). I know towns in Ventura County (Oxnard etc) still use them.

If I remember, the article I read also stated that the CA court ruling my not immediately effect ALL RLC's that went into effect and had their operating contracts ratified AFTER the law was passed. I'm only guessing, but perhaps when the lease/contracts are up, they cannot continue to operate them?
In any case, I'm glad they are gone. They are a total waste of taxpayers money. Simply by increasing the duration of yellow lights has been proven to reduce red light violations.

Bottom line, no matter where you get them in CA, if you get a ticket from one throw it away. It has no legal standing, no matter what the agency wants you to believe.

I know Corona still has theirs just fine, and was in the bay area this weekend, and they have their share.
Scottsdale and Paradise Valley AZ still have theirs as well, although the ones that were on freeways have now been removed. (Thanks, Gov. Brewer!!).
A Corona redlight camera got me for $500 back in 2009.
