With reviews read, opinions solicited, spec sheet compared, and a lot of looking riding and debating, the decision was made.



Picked up the Street Triple R today at Doug Douglas and introduced it to some of its new stomping grounds.  Nothing like doing a break in ride up 243 and down 74 into the desert  .  

Even keeping the revs mostly in the 4-6k range I was able to keep speeds up enough to enjoy the compact and light feel of the new mount.  These things are agile!  If anything this bike is going to make me lazy with its quick low effort turn in, I found myself taking a few corners almost supermoto style.  Ergos are spot on for my 5'8" frame, upright with a short reach to the bars, and fairly relaxed peg placement.  The Perellis felt great and suspension/brakes work as advertised.  The transmission is soooo smooth, a huge difference in comparison to my previous 1050's.  The fueling was another area of improvement.  Very smooth from off to on with no hint of lag or snatch.

If the first 130 miles are any indication, this is going to be a lot of fun  .

The farkle list is already growing. Nothing on order yet, I've got 6 months on dealer discount.  Crash protection will be the first order (SW motech has some nice kit).  I'm seriously thinking about a low mount, I just don't want to add too much volume.  The Arrow is $$$  but the slip ons require hacking the OEM header, decisions decisions.  I'll be looking to add/subtract a few bits after break in.  Due to the wind today, a windscreen will be on the short list aswell.

My choice for crash protection (just recently done) was the Woodcraft sliders.  They stick out quite a bit from the forward frame bolts - enough to pass as highway pegs for long rides.

The OEM flyscreen/visor is expensive but effective.  Also I found the hugger to be worthwhile if you ever ride in the rain.  Can't say I spent any money on the exhaust, but I did on the seat, rear rack, tank pads, and heated grips.

We're gonna be needing more pics.  They do make wonderful sounds, that's for sure - it will be sounding even greater as you approach redline.  

I did many day trips (400+ miles) and one multi-day tour on the stock seat.  It was only after a few days on the longer tour that the seat really got to me.  But now that I've gotten the Sargent, I wish I had gotten it right away - it's that nice.

-The Arrow exhaust is expensive, but I feel a significant difference in the power and sound.  Looks great, lots of compliments.  I have a decent amount of time with the Arrow low 3-1 and Arrow under seat, no doubt in my mind about the full racing exhaust.  Particularly from 8k rpm through redline.  

-Check out the GB Racing crash protection kit.  Specifically, go to Triumph675.net and get your pricing from Rider's Discount in the vendor section.  It's much cheaper.  (I'm not affiliated in any way)

-NEVER, NEVER go to carbon4U.com.  You'll end up spending lots of money on carbon fiber.  If you happen to combine an Arrow low 3-1 with the carbon fiber seat pan/fender eliminator/tail light cover, it's a beautiful thing.  (that's 1 carbon fiber part, not 3)  

-For luggage I bought a Kriega US-40.  Works very well.  Pain to load each day on a trip, but works just fine when you're in that laid back bike trip mindset.

I'm deciding between the Arrow low and the Competition Werkes slip on right now.  I like the slip on, but I'm affraid it wil be too loud even with the DB killer installed.  The price is right, but the sound clips I've seen on youtube make me wonder if the sound is right.  At 40% of the cost of the Arrow, its tempting.  With a lowmount, I'll likely buy the SW tail rack and a top box.  I'll install the rack for trips and keep it off most of the time.  With a low mount install/removal looks pretty quick and easy.

Yes.

Ride the bike first before you start pulling the exhaust trigger.  Lots of guys have TOR's and Arrows for sale due to the booming exhaust drone.  The stock mufflers are fine and let you enjoy that sweet triple sound

Anyone know the HP gains from that?  I like the Zard exhausts (low or high) the best personally, but I'm just not partial to spending the money.

From the searching I've done, I've seen some dyno charts showing increased hp across the range with +5hp as the top number.  These were with OE airfilter and Arrow tune.  Lopping 15lbs off the tail isn't bad either.  

The Comp Werkes slip on offers the same +5hp bump and same weight savings, without the DB killer.  However, it  ran -2hp with the DB killer.  Reports are very loud without DB killer, and less loud with it in.  The Arrow still looks like the best option money aside.  One of the guys on 675.net helped with the developement of the CW slip on and has many threads that have me on the fence.

Progress Report:



Many farkels in the first 1k miles, most noteably the Leo Vince GP Pro full system low boy.  Same 15lbs reduction as the arrow at 3/4 cost with better ground clearance  .  

The sound is great, not too loud, but very racey with the street insert installed.  I didn't expect much of a gain in power, but there is more "motivation" from 5k - 10k, with maybe a little flat spot up to read line.  Roll ons in 6th definitely feel more 1050 like then with the OEM exhaust.  

The Baracuda windscreen does a great job, even with a seemingly flimsy mounting bracket.  SW motech sliders should do the job without looking out of place.  Most of the rest is cosmetic to this point, though there is a list for both touring and track use being sought as this is typed  .

I ordered the Barracuda through italianmotostyles.com.  It is the kit for the '11+ Speed Triple which uses the same headlight mount and assembly as the '12 striples.  They are a US distributor, but it think it was drop shipped from Italy from the looks of the postage labels.

My R doesn't feel top-heavy.  It feels very neutral in the corners.  It is an easy handling hooligan, and can feel quite light especially if you are heavy on the throttle.    

Thanks for the Barracuda link - unfortunately they are not stocking for the SVF650 and I ordered MRA instead.

I wouldn't use the word heavy to describe anything about the Street Triple.  As Rince said, it feels pretty nuetral.  It may be a placebo effect, but the low mount did seem to make a positive change the feel/handling a little when pushing it in the corners.

The 05-10 Speed Triples did carry their weight higher, but to call them top heavy would be picking nits aswell IMHO.
