« on: January 30, 2012, 07:26:00 AM »

Santa brought an FZ-1 fuseblock for the Tiger this year -- I know have the impetus to square away the rate's nest of wiring I've created under the seat . . . . .. .

Is there a reason to run the Battery Tender through the fuse block? Other than limiting the number of terminals attached to the battery, I can't think of any, but I could easily be overlooking something crucial . . ..  ..

thanks, all!

The only thing i can think of is so it is fused. Mine has a fuse in-line allready so fuse block not needed.

No reason at all.  However, plugging in the Battery Tender to an "always hot" Powerlet plug sure is convenient.

Again, not being stupid (on purpose) but how is that different from going directly to the battery with the tender harness?

It's not.  Just a little cleaner looking.  You don't have an SAE connector hanging off the battery.

Same here. I do have an after market fuse block, but I use it for other stuff.

Despite having a Centech fuse block, I still take the seat off and use clamps on the battery.  I'm olde skool like dat.    Lol

Here is something that has a potential to give a headache to those that like to overanalyse  .

Technically there is always  a voltage drop at the fuse box so you could be overcharging unless the charger is directly hooked up to the battery . Razz

BTW , I don`t even bother with those new gel batteries , it is pointless , they hold the charge extremely well  .

I suppose there is no reason you CAN'T do it, but why bother?  I just use the battery clamps, but I only use a battery tender if the bike's sat for more than a month without being run (winter time only).

I run my SAE connector up by the steering head, and plug my GPS into it.
Depending how much extra wire you use, it'll drop down into the abiss of the steering head area when not in use (which can be a bad thing when trying to hook things up in a dim area of the garage).

Love that FZ1.  Relay and choice of switched or unswitched power for each attachment is brilliant.  I hear the IR drop at the fuze box issue, but IMO it should be minimal and not effect the new chargers one bit.  Keeping wire runs as short as possible for everything not only cleans up the rat nest; it makes power loss almost non-existent and trouble shooting a breeze.
