The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will have 580hp and 556lb-ft of torque. More impressively, however, is that it lapped the Nurburgring in just 7:41.27.
With Magnetic Ride Control, a full complement of electronic management functions, and a full factory warranty (that includes track use!!!!  EEK!).

THIS is the one to beat.

I love horsepower, and I love the new Camaro, but after driving a new Kia Optima hybrid for five days last week and putting in 8 dollars worth of gas well....you can have the Camaro bro, give me the light gas sipper!

Besides, if I want fast I have my bike!  Lol

I prefer my non-hybrid.  She's not new, not that technologically advanced either.  But you don't really want to listen to the radio, as the V-12 is music of it's own.

They all look like they were designed by AM General.  Gimme that ol' time religon, as well as something that doesn't need $2500 worth of scan tool (plus upgrades) to tune. Thumbsdown

Current cars kick the ass of everything from the past if you step back and look at things without the rose colored glasses of your youth.

Hybrid high performance cars are on their way into Mustangs, Camaros, and Corvettes.  

But yeah.  Enjoy the V8 Muscle Car Wars.  This is their last hurrah.  The next Muscle Car War will be hybrids.

The point around which I'm rambling is that, the Greater Automotive Industry feels confident enough in the near term to offer some really extraordinary specialty vehicles.
The car "hobby" has always been a lucrative corner of the economy.
Whether you're hot rodding an old Buick nail-head or tarting up a late model Maxima with Stillen goodies, or designing a lightweight lithium pack for your Prius,  Lol the auto industry ain't dead yet!

You can have some serious fun in the cheaper versions of these cars as well.  My 2012 Camaro SS has the FE4 suspension, and absolutely rocks on the twisties.

426 hp aint nothin to sniff at.
