It's not just state to state. You also moved to a much more densely populated zip code. Move out to the middle of no where in Glasgow, you're rate will probably go down. Move in to Trolly Square, it'll likely go up.

I don't know the exact number but I'm paying less then that for the Sprint and way less for my SV. I'm also with State Farm.

Location, location, location. It's true for insurance as well as real estate  

Dan and I were paying about $1400 for our vehicles in San Francisco (apartment, no secure parking) yet when we moved to NJ (secure private garage parking) our rate jumped to $2400. We promptly dumped State Farm (which was too bad, as I really liked them in Seattle and SF) and went with Geico. We now cover 5 motorcycles and 2 cars for about $1,300/year

In PA I paid ~$330/year for amazing coverage through State Farm.

I moved 18 miles, across the state line into Delaware. Same coverage, same company, ~$680.

 

Time to shop insurance companies for the first time in like 30 years. (sigh)

Marital status and age have alot to do with rates in Delaware.  I pay in this neighborhood for insurance also, plus any bike that's not a cruiser add a bunch.

It pays to shop around.  I always get an insurance quote BEFORE I buy any vehicle.

Rates vary from company to company, and sometimes disproportionately by type of bike.

A tourer can be more expensive than a sport bike at one company, and the same tourer can be less expensive than the same sport bike at another company.  So it pays to check around.

I agree it is all about zip code. If you live in a high accident area, you will pay higher rates. They are not concerned with the value of the bike, even a new 20k bike is a small payout compared to a 200k medical lawsuit. Your risk exposure to this is probably what the increase is based on. I am surprised that State Farm is more expensive than some others, I have always been quoted the best rates by them. Shopping around definitely pays off.

Geico wanted $1200 for 2 bikes (Ulysses and a x1), Progressive wanted $650 for the same coverage on both bikes.  Rider was more than Geico.

I'm in Kent Co, my Concours is 503 a year for full coverage. My wifes Vulcan 1500 is 292 for full coverage. My rate about doubled from the Vulcan 1600 I had before, to the Concours. Zero tickets and no accidents for either my wife or I and we're both over 40.

IMO, MC insurance is totally illogical.  In State College, PA I paid about $650 for an 02 Sprint ST and new 04 Sprint RS.  At that time none of the companies could even find the RS in their books so they just charged me for an ST.  When I went to a new 06 FJR in Spartanburg, SC the insurance for one bike was in the low $600's.   Stayed the same for an 07 Tiger 1050.  I've had three tickets over the last three years and a crash last October.  This year's insurance dropped to $495, yep dropped.   Bought new R1200GS, went up $120, yep only $120.  Sold the Tiger, now the insurance on a MUCH more expensive, NEW bike is $5 lower than the older Tiger.  

Oh yes, when I came to SC with the two Sprints, I checked Progressive, Geico, and several other companies.  They ranged from about $600 to $2000 and at that time it was no violations and no crashes.

The percentage of uninsured motorist in an area also has am impact on your rate.

Exactly my point.  That's why I don't use synthetic oil.  

But I do get a quote from at least 2 different companies (my current insurer and a competitor) before buying a new bike.

There's no way to logically predict what your new rates will be.

Progressive was actually one of the high cost ones I checked, but that was quite a while ago, like 5 or 6 years.  I have Dairyland (Sentry).  My son dropped the RS to the tune of $4K damages about five years ago, and my exit from the Tiger was about $2500.  Neither impacted my insurance at all.

P.S. - they were fast and easy to deal with.  Sent an adjuster and everything was fixed with no muss, no fuss.

Try progressive, I use them (in DE) and my ins is 1/3 what you are paying.  Just FYI, you might consider staying with SF from your cars / house.  I shopped around last year and SF was the cheapest for the cars / house. Had USAA before that.
