Quote
A California man walking his two small dogs off-leash was arrested after a park ranger used her stun gun on him.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Gary Hesterberg was walking his two small dogs inside Rancho Corral de Tierra, which was recently incorporated into the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

If Chihuahuas are allowed to run free in our parks the terrorists win.

Thank god she didn't have lethal weapons....  Crazy

I would sue the shit out of that ranger for excessive use of force. I usually give the benefit of the doubt to the LEO, but damn....shot in the back while walking small dogs.
Sure he gave you a false name-- you have a radio, use it first. Get back up, get his ticket out....  If he swings at you take him down with the stun gun.

Walking away from a LEO giving you an order to stop isn't an escalation of force....is it LEOs?  Without direct physical assault you can't pull your weapon and fire at someone, especially in the back?!

You can only use one level above the threat correct?

Good thing that guy didn't have a pacemaker.

Beat me to it.  As a guy with a defective ticker, it's the first thing I thought about.  She'd be in jail if he died from being Tasered.  Definitely over did it for a measley leash law fine. Rolleyes

Well, at least the dood learnt not to give a fake name and walk away from an officer of the law.

Some people just learn the obvious the hard way.

As a fellow dog owner I can't stand those that ignore the leash laws.  They are the same that have magical dogs that never poop...

As with every story, I'm sure there is far more to it.

It really pisses me off when people's dogs are off leash. My dogs are not dog friendly, and it pisses me off when peoples dog's off leash run up when mine are on leash.

Had one guy get mad when their German Sheppard runs over and attacks my Dogo Argentino  - and I have to drop his leash and let him defend himself since the other dog was biting his ass.  German Sheppard got his ass kicked and his head gnawed. Then the owner acts like I did something wrong.

Shoulda kicked the owner's ass and gnawed on his head. Wouldn't have fixed his stoopid, but you'd have felt better, until some rangerette tasered you in the back for letting your dog run loose.

Props to the responsible pet owners. Bigok
