This is a bit of a strange question, but has anyone found a cooler that is a shape that might allow it to fit inside a fairly typical topcase. Everything I look at other than little 6 can types tends to be too tall.

Try a soft sided one.  You can mash it down a little.

I've used a soft sided cooler but they will leak. So don't keep anything else in the top case that you don't want to get wet.

Maybe my top case is taller than most. I forget the liter size/capacity of it but my lunch cooler fits mine. It is a 6 pack cooler and it has a hard plastic (removable) inner liner that will not leak. I am pretty sure I got it at Target but I do not know the brand of the cooler. I have used it on a number of weekend or longer trips with no issues.

unless you wish to keep things cool for longer than a couple hours...
or if you would like something in the trunk other than your beverage...
or if you do not want the interior of the trunk wet after you are done...
or if you do not want the melted ice leaking out down the back of your bike through the port for the brake light wires...
or if you would like to take your cold items into work, your tent, over to the picnic table, or anywhere for that matter.

Check these out. I have one and like it. Keeps stuff cold a long time + doesn't leak as long as you keep it right side up.
The zipper is not watertight but I guess if you need to turn the cooler on it's side in the topcase you could line it with a plastic bag.

I have an "IGLOO" brand "Island Breeze" cooler that fits great in my Givi V46 top box. The cooler is rated at 7 quarts or 12 cans. It's top is flat, thus it's profile is low. 9 inches tall, 13 inches long, 9.5 inches wide.

Hey, the Givis are waterproof...do they keep the water in?

(edited to remove possessive apostrophe from Givi's before frenchie gives me shit about it)
