OK, so I have lost 55 lbs and have ~25 lbs more to go to get to goal.  My gear no longer fits.  What do I do

a. in the interim until I have reached goal weight?  I am considering cheap closeouts for a jacket and then just jeans and leg armor at the moment.

b. when I hit goal?  I am eying the Teiz custom women's textile suit or a one-piece by someone like Spartan leathers.  I will also (finally) be able to wear most of the off-the-rack women's gear made by the usual suspects.

My riding is mostly commuting with a couple of track days and day trips thrown in to the mix.  The Little Dude keeps Fourstring and I from wandering farther.

Comments?  Questions?

EEK!   Freakin' awesome! Congrats! We'd love to hear how you did that.

My gear no longer fits.  What do I do

I like the plan you've got. Given the time of year and where you & Fourstring live, I might hold off on the closeouts for another month or two. You might drop another size before spring. I like that Joe Rocket Lotus jacket, though.

Either (a) put the weight back on, or (b) buy new gear.  Pretty simple.   Bigsmile

If you need "in between / transition weight" gear, then buy used.  I'm assuming your helmet still fits, so all you need in the interim is a decent jacket and gloves.  Replace it all when the goal is reached, and sell all of the other stuff - built in incentive to keep the weight off.

Nice job, BTW.

 Withstupid

It's not a bad problem to have.  Also once you get to goal pricey gear keeps you in check.  The thought of getting too fat for your $300.00 pair of pants is good motivation.

It's tough when there are days like today where it's sunny and 55.  *sigh*

That's what I told Fourstring last night.  He looked slightly skeptical. Sad

55 Lbs, amazing. Maybe put your gear in the dryer for a few days?   Lol

Sucks though, m/c gear is expensive.

How about having the gear altered to fit?? I think Colleen had a line on a good seamstress, check with her, maybe you can salvage your gear that way.

If they'll do it right, it'll be cheaper to buy used/closeout and sell what she has.  Sewing stuff takes time, and closeout gear is cheap right now.  After losing that much weight they'd pretty much have to take it all apart and start from scratch.

This.  You could fit both of us in her jacket now.

Congrats!  Fortunately I'd kept my skinnier riding pants, but when those became too loose looked for used stuff on Craigslist and all the usual places.

Having just dropped a bike in my driveway, I don't recommend the jeans route. Olympia pants have full side zips and armor, with velcro adjustment that saw me through the last 20 pounds.

Last years jackets are often on sale for  under $200 right now.

What I decided to do was gear up for under $400 and reward myself after keeping the weight off for 12 continuous months with the more expensive stuff.  I got lucky though--my pants were new on the Last Chance rack for 70% off and my jacket was also on close out.

I like that.  I think I should be at goal by my birthday in May.  Maybe I'll make it my birthday present next year to get a nice suit.
