Simple tubo tax.  No big.  But while we were going through each prompt for our NJ state taxes we were asked if we had purchased a house in DC and that in itself is a tax break.  A government incentive to encourage people to buy in Washington DC?  What the F*ck is that about?  Are they f*ckin kidding?  Who besides a politician would be interested in purchasing a house in DC as a second house?  If you could afford a half decent looking place for a second home would you buy one in DC?  I am sooo sick of this kind of bullshit.  Ron Paul gets my vote.  Cancel the tax laws.  No more write offs.  No child credits.  No tax deferred this and that. No interest write offs.  No real estate taxes.  No real estate tax write offs.  Very simple.  You earn X amount?  You pay 15%.  End of story. Damn this is ridiculous.  A tax break if you buy in DC, WTF?

Tax breaks like that are supposed to encourage people buying property in "less than desirable" locales.

Of course, you see how biased the incentive is.  DC is America's armpit.  Other places have just as real a need for people to invest there to bring back the community, but you don't get tax breaks for buying there.

I doubt all that many in congress actually purchase in DC proper.  Most buy homes outside the beltway.

Also, don't forget the fact that folks living in DC pay Federal Taxes and do not have representation in government.

I'd venture to say that most people living IN DC that aren't representatives probably pay no tax anyway.

Oh, I realize why it is being offered, or should I say, yes it is obvious why they are..... well shit no I can't even understand it.  Why would my state want to subscribe to this bullshit.  How do they sleep at night. I thought Gov. Christie was against this type of crap.  Meanwhile, while my wife and I have paid almost 20,000 dollars in taxes and GE has paid 0. Good times.  For the record, I was a business owner, and I took advantage of the tax laws, but thought it was a big headache and pain in the ass. Wished it was a flat tax then and now.

I think the federal government does a damned good job of representing themselves right there in DC.

Funny....when you consider that the only place that didn't suffer home prices plummeting was DC and surrounding area.  The federal govt has all the money it needs.  Your money.   Twofinger

I used to live near DC, and let me tell you what, if you could actually buy a port-a-potty on a plot anywhere on the Mall, you'd make an absolute friggin' KILLING!

Saddly, tax "breaks" are 90% of the tax code.   Fat chance that will ever change.

Methinks a certain demographic in DC has passed a law helping themselves to yet another nice tax break. All in the name of serving the people back home.

Interesting data found here:
http://www.city-data.com/city/Washington-District-of-Columbia.html

When you drill down, you can really tell who's makin' the money, and who ain't.

Did you know there are more than 25K people in Washington who make more than 200K per year? And other 30K people who make less than 10K per year?

Estimated median house or condo value in 2009: $443,700 (it was $153,500 in 2000)
Washington:   $443,700
District of Columbia:   $443,700
Mean prices in 2009: All housing units: $532,403; Detached houses: $675,833; Townhouses or other attached units: $504,701; In 2-unit structures: $670,049; In 3-to-4-unit structures: $440,023; In 5-or-more-unit structures: $403,107; Mobile homes: $206,944; Occupied boats, RVs, vans, etc.: $171,197 Median gross rent in 2009: $1,059.

Really?
