I had made my very first car payment in college when some asswipe stole my side mirror.

My current car has dings all over the hood from neighborhood kids with errant basketballs.

I park on the street in the city, so my driver's side mirror is held on by force of will.

Best one I ever had was when I was parked on the street- a woman was driving down my road, got sick on something she ate for lunch, and crashed into my car whilst puking in her lap.  Hurl  Her car was totaled, mine just looked dirtier.  We exchanged numbers but I declined to contact her insurance; I wasn't gonna raise her rates for my shitbox.   Lol

At a car show/display on Hastings main street (lot of muscle/classics) in one night 7 cars were keyed, several had trim tags/data plates stolen.  Next show had less than half the cars attending, and I'll never go there.  Assholes that have nothing hate when others do.

Yep - you nailed it.  People DO suck.  Especially the ones who have no respect for other people's property.

Nothing is worse than getting a brand new vehicle and finding the first few dents, especially when its not your fault.

The last few cars I've owned were a few years old when I got them... pretty clean overall but not perfect.  Still bummed when I find something new but not as upset as I normally would be.

Sadly the only way to avoid others carelessness is to not drive it anywhere!

I guy here at work parks his truck so far that it takes a solid 5 minutes to walk to the building.  I've even seen him brave crazy blizzard-like weather just to get to his car in the remote lot.    We have huge parking lots at Motorola and many of areas never fill up.

All this to keep his 2005 Silverado in perfect shape - it's not even anything special really.

When I had my first new car back in 2003 I was always careful where I parked it - never super far away, but always a little further than normal.  I'd come back and it was like a shit magnet.. there was always something like a beat-up Astro van parked right next to me... WTF??  My wife points out - "did you see this?" A nice size ding on the passenger door...faack.

Yea, we're leasing a Prius. A couple of months back I noticed a pretty large downward like ding in the back near the tail light. It's about 4' off the ground. We figured it was a shopping cart or someone with gull-wing doors.

Proly a good suggestion.

Repainted wife's BMW car for $2000 a few months ago, it now has drag marks on both the hood and roof from people putting their groceries on it, opening their car door, and dragging their shit off her car.  WTF!!!??? Mad2 Mad2

Thats not other people, thats your wife's purse.  The easiest way to tell if a car is driven by a woman is to look at the roof above the drives door and the hood right in front of the windshild.  If there are scratches there, it's from her dragging her purse off the car.

Stop going to Target and Walmart.

Universities and areas with rich soccer moms are the worst.  Being a grad student and tutoring means I get a big helping of both.

Once while driving the car I parked in the back of the lot at Target and some bitch in a SUV pulls up next to me super close and proceeds to stare at me while opening her door into my car.  If that door wasn't already horribly messed up I would have gone ballistic (previous owner left a long indented area in the middle of it).  Since the door was a lost cause she got the finger.  There's a reason I refuse to drive nice things until I graduate, and it's not because I can't afford something better.

Wow.  Based on this thread CSprings must rank in the top 5 for courteous people?  Knock on wood, no door dings, scratches or other wise on either of our cars.   Headscratch

rocks dinging windshields however is a common occurrence here, so I guess that makes things equal.....

Bought my truck used, pre-dented. Thumbsup

Same here.  We've been fortunate that our "nicer" car has been hit and run free (cross fingers, knock on wood).

2 bikes in parking spots run over so far. Park behind barricades where cars can't go, but even some riders need educating.

I gave up on nice daily drivers. I buy good-running wrecks and Mad Max them. If someone dings them, I'll never know.

On the other hand, some fucker KEYED my ST3 2 weeks after I bought it.  On the tank.  I've let it go, but it's a really good thing I didn't see the guy doing it.

My R1100R has a twelve year old Odyssey Batteries decal over the place where some dickhead with a key and some free time wrote his initials (R.Z.) on the right side of the tank about six months after I bought it.
At the library of all places.

WTF is wrong with people? I do not see the pleasure one would get out of causing someone you don't know misery? I could understand at least if it was someone you knew and hated.
