New (used) 2000 Speed Triple owner questions about frame sliders, tail lights
«

Hi,
I just got my first Triple, ever. In fact my first Triumph. I'm coming from an 05 Bandit 1200s.
I got a 2000 Speed Triple in excellent condition that has some upgrades already - the windscreen thing and the high-mount pipe.
Unfortunately I bought it with 11, 700 miles on it and it needs the 12K service at Rockwells... ouch.
I'm trying to make it a bit more suitable to my commuter riding style.
I've added already:
1.SW Mototech centerstand
2. gas-cap mounted tank bag.
3. my helmet-mounted wireless brake light
I'm adding a Laminar Lip if it would EVER warm up enough around here (NY) to mount properly.
I want to know if I should add frame-sliders - someone suggested I add 2 on each side for best protection in case of a drop.
So here are my questions:
1. Which frame sliders does anybody recommend?
2. Which, if any, brake light/tail light upgrades for safety?
3. Any other easy to mount plastics or bolt-ons that are too cool to live without?
On my Bandit I had a lot of stuff - I had Motolights, which I am getting back from the buyer.
I also had a permanently mounted heat-troller for my Warm N'Safe gear. I had a gel seat and I had changed the fork springs, plus I had the Laminar Touring Lip, engine guards, bar risers and jet-kit/aftermarket Holeshot pipe. I also had an LED tail-light. And other stuff I can't even remember. Oh, and I had a Scotts lifetime oil filter.
I'm not trying to re-create a touring bike - I got rid of it because it was top heavy and just heavy in general.
But I'd like any advice on aftermarket add-ons. I'm not a DIY type regarding the bike - although I can do basic stuff.

Another great resource is Skyking. I'd link to them but unfortunately they're website won't load right now.
Go
http://www.triumphrat.net
and search in the Speed Triple forum for lights. Someone did a really nice mod to their headlights that provided much great illumination. Something about ICE, I think that was part of the product name.
The Laminar Lip is a great mod. Other than that? There really isn't much to add to the bike.

I changed my lights out for the
Adjure ICE
lights, and they are a bit better, but not worlds so. I prefer the look, though, so it's a twofer.
I also added a power outlet for my heated vest. Here's the

I have SkyKing's tail section sliders, mostly to protect in case of a tip over. (not sure they would actually slide). I had the forward sliders installed and in a very low speed fall, it sheared off. They are too long in my opinion. My dealer also tells me they've seen them crack the bracket at the back of the cylinder head in low side crashes.
I have the Corbin seat that I use most of the time, and had the stock seat foam changed to a more dense foam. I like the look of the Corbin, but the repadded stocker is more comfortable on trips.
Since I commute on it daily, I have heated grips, dual high db Fiam horns, bar end mirrors, three teeth up on the back sprocket, and am in the process of adding a secondary LED tail/brake/turn light made by GYB. Metzler M1 front tire and Z6 180 rear. The softer front, provides good front end stick while still getting about the same mileage as I do from the z6 on the back, and it turns in a lot easier than with the Bridgestones.
Enjoy!
