Poll
Question: Do you do wheelies?
I'm on one wheel as often as two.
Been there, done that, don't need to do it again.
I've wheelied, ....didn't mean to (a bad thing).
It wasn't intentional, but I made it look good.
Never done, never will (if I can help it!)
What are you talking about? (I'm just here for the pie).

How are your one wheeled skills?  Have you ever done them (intentionally or unintentionally), or practiced them?

Me, when on the street, I'm a firm believer on using every wheel the manufacturer saw fit to include on the bike. I've done it a few times with motocross bikes, but nothing to write home about.

I wouldn't think of it with my Connie.

I'll try to loft the front once in a while, but they turn out to be lame. No skillz any more. Used to do lots of wheelies on dirt bikes and dual-sports back in the day. Too afraid of wadding up all the expensive plastic now. There wasn't a poll option for willing to (re) learn, but still suck at them.

Null vote.  Somewhere in between 1 and 2. I've wheelied every bike I've ever owned, and I like to jump the front end up in the air every once in a while when I'm in a spirited mood.

I like to lift the front wheel on the CBR occasionally. Not long balance point type wheelies very often, just nice little 30mph -60mph ones about a foot off the ground.

I've done a few small, 1st and 2nd gear power-wheelies on purpose, but I don't do them very often at all. Typically I only get the front wheel about 2-3 feet in the air and only carry it 30-60 feet. I have this fear of damaging one of my Ducatis. The bodywork alone costs as much as a good, used Jap 600! I used to wheelie my dirtbikes all the time as a teenager. I guess I prefer to be leaned over, these days.

Yeah, I'll wheelie now and then because it's fun.  And I like fun.

The Tuono is quite easy to wheelie, especially on little rises.  Just roll it on and up comes the front end.

But I'm crap at it.  No long balance-point wheelies for me (and I don't care enough to learn how to do it).

Null for me too..I like to do em, not the big ones, just first gear and smaller  second gear ones..no 1/2 milers..Smile  (yet)
 but not all the time...

hahaaa   Connie wheelie..well in fact the one i owned did beautiful nice smooth 2 footers with a passenger on any time i hit it in first gear..lotsa fun..never bothered when single, who would care?  Nothing else about that bike was as much fun.  I practice   them on any bike i  have that is capable. My old F's wont budge the front end without eating the clutch,, my dl650 would with ajerk or  a bounce, and my vfr will go up easily  anytime since i geared it down. But i dont do it in traffic or around others, just by myself in the middle of nowhere when killing time to keep my skills up..Doesnt hurt to know how to handle  the bike, if it does go up, and lots new bikes i test drive certainly do it easy!  No suprise this way..besides..its kinda fun..just no spectators please as thats the kiss of death from what ive seen..showing off will always get you eventually!  But wow are some guys good..I like to then be the spectator....

I have a few times, not always intentionally. then again the svs doesn't power wheely super easily at my weight. come spring it'll have MUCH higher bars and will likely power wheely VERY easily, so this might change.
the best one was coming off a parking lot connector at like 5-10mph I just gave it a bit of throttle and the front came up nice and smooth and went down just as smooth and nice

The front wheel on the GS got airborne the other day as I was clearing a short hill off road.

The rear tire spun as well......so does that count as a wheelie and a burnout?

I think I ride too far north of the CG to do much more than lighten the front end anymore ... my riding style was honed on the streets of Jakarta where everyone rode up on the gas tank to get more leverage on the throttle! When you're wringing the neck of a Yammie 90 you try every trick in the book to be first off the line at the intersections.

I'm with Garry on this one.  I'm too concerned about having to replace expensive plastic bits.  But, I would love to be more confident in my street bike wheelie skillz.

With my Duc ST3, it was easy to get the front wheel off the ground w/ the torque of the twin.  The Daytona needs to have the revs way up to get the front wheel off the ground.

The R11S will do little power-wheelies a bit @ ~4300RPM or so in 1st and 2nd gear (the little 6" kind, unless you yank on the bars).  Wheeee!

The front end comes up pretty easy if you're leaned over; also pretty easy to power-slide if you want to.  Wheeeeeeeeeee!

The rear wheel likes to do rolling burnouts in 1st or 2nd on wet pavement.  Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee! Burnout

The Ducati 996 I borrowed awhile back did a big power wheelie when I didn't expect it.  When I dropped the front end down, I almost lost the ability to procreate.  Oooouuuuuuuch. Crazy

That's half the reason I have the CR: wheelies...on the back and front wheel. Squid

However if you do it on a 2 smoke, learn to cover the rear brake. Sometimes the powerband sneaks up on ya.

sure...just twist the loud handle.  I don't carry it any longer than when I have to shift to second, and its only a foot or so off the ground.

I try, but apparently I'm a wimp.  The Vstrom will do it, but I have to really hammer in 1st and I'm uncomfortable with clutch wheelies since I don't really know how to do it.

My "figuring out how to wheelie" has gone on hold since the rainy season started, too.

Req, what gearing do you have?  I have 16/43 and the DL1K comes up oh-so-smooth in 1st when the throttle is twisted at about 2800rpms, no bounce just power.  I haven't ridden the bike without a Power Commander, but I'll wager from previous experience that this helps mine loft up as well.

Standard gearing, and no PowerCommander but a slightly tweaked ECU.  I borrowed a Yosh box from someone on another list and dialed in +2% fuel mix on the idle circuit for both cylinders, which does appear to add power and low-rev smoothness.  But it takes a lot more than a smooth roll-on to lift the wheel; more like get to 5K, shut the throttle and whack it open again.  Not exactly comfortable.

Maybe my inner hooligan needs to wait until it's chain-replacement time.  On the plus side, that's going to be next week...   Bigsmile

Mostly a couple inches with the ZZR.  Pretty easy to do.
The one time I actually tried to get it up fairly decent, it went up, but when it came back down I thought I broke something.  It was loud as hell and I thought I messed up the forks or something.

The ZZR is just to heavy for this activity on a regular basis.  Now if I had the ZX-10R... Bigsmile

Yea, the FJR was generally like that if you wanted to get it up more than a foot or so....bounce bounce.

It's next week...how are the new chain and sprockets? Bigsmile

When I was younger I wheelied all the time.  My first street bike was a Kawasaki H2 750,  couldn't keep the front wheel on the ground.  Now when people ask if I wheelie I tell them that if they see either of my wheels in the air to call 911, something has gone terribly wrong.

Although I voted "never did, never will", I think it would be interesting to learn this as a skill.  Stunt schools and competitions exist, which would be the proper place.

Old heavy bike + Not a lot of Power + BIG FAT ME = No wheelie's but I would if I could, and I would make it look damn good.

Probably look good straight into a pine box, that is beside the point.

In my old Yamaha 175 days, yeah, quite a bit.  Not anymore.  Have you priced a side panel for a BMW?  Wow
