Anybody effected by the explosion I just heard about?

MILWAUKEE - An explosion that may have started in a large propane tank rocked an industrial complex near downtown Milwaukee Wednesday morning, killing one person and injuring at least 25 more.

One person was missing.
The explosion at 8:15 a.m. ignited a fire at a Falk Corp. warehouse near the Potawatomi casino about a half mile from Miller Park, where the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team plays, fire Chief William Wendtland said.
The blast flipped cars, spewed debris into the air and prompted the evacuation of dozens of workers at the plant where large industrial gears and couplings are made. Fire spread through rubble covering several blocks.
Hazardous materials crews and as many as 120 firefighters and paramedics responded to the fire, which was largely extinguished nearly three hours later, Wendtland said.
"It sounded like when I was in Vietnam, incoming mortar rounds," said worker David L. Mays, 61, who said the impact knocked him down and flipped over his car, destroying it.
"But I'm OK," Mays said as a single tear rolled down his cheek.
Hospitals throughout Milwaukee took in the injured, some seriously hurt. One person was killed and another was missing, officials said.
Mays said the company began to evacuate workers earlier Wednesday after a leak occurred in one of six large propane tanks behind a building workers call the annex. He said he and others were outside when one of the tanks exploded.
Falk employs about 700 people at its Milwaukee headquarters and plant, spokeswoman Linda Mayor said. She did not know how many people were in the plant at the time of the blast.
Police investigating the cause of the explosion interviewed workers at Miller Park before they were loaded on buses to go to a nearby location to be checked for injuries.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also sent a team to investigate the explosion, said George Yoksas, director of OSHA's Milwaukee office.
The explosion could be felt at a firehouse about a mile and a half away, fire Lt. Brian O'Connor said. It destroyed Falk's wood frame warehouse and numerous cars and damaged several other buildings in the complex, he said.
Construction crews working on buildings in the surrounding area were sent home by their companies because of concern about smoke from the spreading fire.
Construction worker Jack Obarski, 46, of Milwaukee, said he was working when he heard a loud boom and saw smoke hundreds of feet in the air.
"Stuff was just flying up in the air," Obarski said as he headed home.

It was in Milwaukee, between Potawonami and the Stadium.

2 dead that I know of. a lot of injuries. It happened at about 8ish, and my phone rang at 830. I came to take a shower and shave, and will be back at work in a bit. Haven't actaully gone to the site yet, and probably won't since they got everyone out, who is coming out anyway.

3 dead, a number of criticals, 37 hospitalized, more missing. 175,000 lb. propane tank is the suspect at this point.

Around 8am I heard/felt what seemed like a sonic boom. Discarded that idea, actually went outside and looked at the house and roof, thinking something had hit it. Shortly thereafter heard the news on the radio.

I live about 4 miles south of the Falk complex.

back at work, and I have a sec, so...

The air pics aren't really doing the scene justice. More than a block is just gone. Buildings more than half a mile away are missing windows. I didn't see any part of the Falk plant that was undamaged.

I don't know about more injuries, local news is keeping up with that better. There were camaras and crews all over the place at Miller Park, where the employees went. Kinda gross, actually.

Good news is Milwaukee's disaster plan, which was dreamed up after 9/11, actually worked, and exactly like it should've. Bad news is we had to have an actual disaster to find that out.

Life for EMS is kinda returning to normal. People don't stop being sick or hurt for this kind of thing. I am unusually tired, and ready to go home.

My wife heard and felt the explosion and we are on the Cudahy / South Milwaukee border.  I was told that people in Racine heard the blast as well.  I was inside a solid brick building (which could double as a bomb shelter) so I didn't hear anything.

We got a memo about 10:00 this morning because there are several students who had relatives working at the time of the explosion.  No word yet as to whether or not any of those families were affected or not.  In any event, it is a horrible tragedy.

Been thinking about all of you SE WI folks since the news broke yesterday, wondering about you and yours.  Sympathies to all.

I spent time around and knew a bit of the Good Hope, Brown Deer and Capitol Dr/Humboldt areas, back before we were married with lots of weekend Guzzi miles between the 'Cities and Milwaukee, but don't know the area of the blast well at all.

The area is about half-way between the Marquette Interchange (Downtown Milwaukee), and Miller Park, where the Brewers play. It is clearly visible from I-94, and it actually caused some backups yesterday morning.

Two bridges, 35th st and 27th st (We call them the Viaducts) bracked the factory to the west and east. Both were closed and inspected for blast damage, but are open again now. 27th street is the same road as the Mitchel Park Domes, so some of you have probably been on that.

This is weird, we had a similar incident in Tacoma recently (http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/334588_tacomafire07.html?source=mypi).  Tacoma was 20,000 gallons of propane so it sounds like the Milwaukee accident may have been more severe.

The damage from the blast went as far away as 8 or 9 city blocks, mostly windows blown out. I live due south about 20 blocks and recieved no damage to the house. The last I heard about this is the tried blaming the company that installed the pipe from the tanks to the buildings.
