Remove 2006 Sprint battery?
«
on:

I locked the steering but went too far with the key leaving the parking lights on = dead battery.
Went to pull the battery and found out dealer left out the seat bolts, but that isn't my real problem.
How do I get the damn battery out?
It pulls straight out until it hits that little lip that is part of the gas tank and I can seem to get the right angle to get that bugger out. It seems like it shouldn't be that difficult.

Unfortunately you have to remove the tank.

Can I just undo the bolt holding the rear of the tank and lift the battery or is it more involved than that?

Not sure. If I had the bike in front of me I could tell you.
I would guess you could just undo that bolt although if the tank is full it may be more difficult.

The service manual says to remove the seat, tank, and rear bodywork. I'd be willing to bet you could just undo the tank bolt, lift up the rear of the tank (leaving the rear bodywork on) and then take the battery out. It might take an extra set of hands, though.
Good luck.

In order to get the bolt holding the tank on out you have to take the bodywork off. The bolt won't slide out otherwise. What a pain in the butt. I plan on taking very good care of that battery so it won't have to be replaced for a long time..... I hope.
In the meantime I've given up taking the battery out. I'm just going to push it under my apartment balcony and run an extension cord. That is, if my downstairs neighbor doesn't have a problem with it.

Get someone to help you push start it. I did that once.

You can charge it through the accessory socket - presumably the thinking is that there is little need to remove it that often. PITA when you do need to though - another reason to keep my 955 Sprint.

There was another thread on this topic not long ago. I remember cuz I was part of it
Anyway, what worked on my 06 was to remove the seat, remove the tail plastic (comes right off w/ the fasteners removed, no drama) and then, w/ the battery all ready to be removed, take the tank bolt out and with one hand lifting the tank, removed the battery with the other. it takes two seconds or less. put the bolt back in the tank and repeat when the new battery is available. worked like a charm.
cheers,
sds
