I have a 2006 Fjr1300 with 3000 miles on it. After a ride. I'm getting the smell of anti freeze from the bike. Ive checked the bike for water leaks or signs of. I checked the hoses and under the plastic for water. I can't find any leak, the bikes coolent level is good, and the bike isn't overheating. It runs good. Any ideas what it might be ?

Are you sure it's coolant?

My bike has a very slow oil leak at the water pump.  The water pump shares a moving seal with the oil side of things.  The oil drips out of the water pump weep hole, hits the exhaust collector and I get a burning smell, but I couldn't identify it from memory.  I thought it was coolant at first until I checked the coolant level, which was completely full.  Then I checked the oil level and it was low.  Not dangerously low, luckily, but low.  Now I just keep my eye on it and make sure to top it up regularly.

Check the oil level.

Head gasket going? Check the plugs. If they are nice and clean, it may be. Sniff the exhaust; "sickly sweet" aroma? If so it may be.

Yea if it is a stickily sweet smell it's coolant. It could be your overfill venting onto a hot part of your bike. Kragen and other auto parts stores sell a florescent dye that can be seen under black light. You just put it into your coolant and run the bike for a bit. Stuff glows where it's leaking under the black light.

Had the same problem, ended up I didn't tighten the cap enough after changing coolant. It's usually sumtin simple, hopefully.

Hey gang! Thanks for all the replys. I took it back to the dealer. They told be it was coolent coming from my waterpump weep hole. They explained that basicly  the bike was just releasing presure from the waterpump. The water leak happend after a long ride i did. They went over the bike and told me that it wasnt a problem, and it was doing what the waterpump was suspose to do. They told me just to watch my coolent level. Is this true? I know alot of the older goldwings did that. Anyone with a FJR1300 knows about that. The bike is fine. Its not over heating, the fan kicks in and cools the bike. The smell is there still.

Interesting. In cars, a leak at the pump is a signal that it's failing. I don't know why the system would have to relieve pressure.

The system has to relieve pressure because the coolant expands as it gets heated.  The thing is, the radiator-cap is specifically-designed to vent the expanded-coolant into the reservoir and then allow it to be drawn back into the radiator as the system cools...  I'm not specifically familiar with the water-pump on the FJR-1300, but on any other water-pump that "weeps" coolant out of the weep-hole, I'd call that a sign of impending failure.

Maybe the FJR's water-pump is designed to work this way?  I'm sure that a Yamaha factory-trained technician would know more about it than I do.
