I'm hearing rumbles about WCRM 4.5 or whatever it is by now, what does the general public thing of doing it in Monterey on the 14th-16th, just in time for the AMA National?  It's not nearly as big a race as the GP, and there are still campsites at the track, as well as hotel/motel rooms in town.  Whadda ya think?

September is THE BEST time to visit that area.  The summer fog will rarely be seen.  The temps normally would be in the 70's.  Finally, the tourist crowds of summer have mostly gone home.

I did a ride to the Bay Area last year in early Oct and the weather was absolutely perfect.

Three weeks until the WCRM and we're planning the next one?

Perfect!   Lol Bigok

I'm down with Monterey.  This would be easy for the SoCal contingent who had a tough time getting to Baker City last year, too.  Long haul for the guys from Boise, but maybe that's fair after Baker City.

North of the Bay Area would be good, too.  Healdsburg or thereabouts?  And obviously there was considerable talk of having the meet in Ashland, OR.

Um you mean two weeks...it is the weekend of the 19th after all.

and no Ashland.....that's not even close to the Bay Area.  Healdsburg would work for me.

Monterey would be very good. The AMA races should be cool without the huge crowds and signage blocking so much of the track as it does during the World Championship races.

BUT, every year there is endless discussion about having the Spring WCRM somewhere in the Sierra and every year we argue that the roads will be closed or wet or covered with sand. Fall in the Sierra is really nice, the roads are less crowded and in perfect shape.

Really, it's not that bad.  Nice weather, good roads.  Much less traffic than in the Bay Area.

How about Quincy, CA?  Conveniently sited at one end of the fabled Oroville-Quincy highway.   Thumbsup Thumbsup

Here's a very m/c friendly place to stay in the mountains north of Santa Cruz.  Pool, bar, restaurant with a creek running thru it.

I think we need to have three or four polls, each invalidating the last, before someone makes a command decision and we all bitch about it but go anyway.  Bigsmile

One big negative about Monterey is that the hotels know very well what weekends to gouge customers, and that anything major going on at Laguna Seca will mean $$$. And it's so spread out -- anything close to the track would not be close to convenient boozing locales.

Maybe we should have two non-WCRM events.  WCRM IV ver. 33 1/3 north and WCRM IV ver. 66 2/3 south.

Let's vote on it...

Speed limit?  Didn't seem to bother you at last year's WCRM.   Lol   I don't think we saw a cop anywhere in Eastern Oregon.  Or maybe we were just going too fast to notice.

This is true and there's usually a minimum number of nights that need to be reserved. The place I've stayed at in Carmel Valley during the races now requires a 4 night minimum, though thankfully they haven't raised their prices in the past few years, so the bite isn't too painful especially when split between a number of people.

I don't know the roads around Monterey. Does it have anything going for it other than proximity to racing?

Of the options discussed, the Sierras sounds interesting. But I notice that it's not in the list of poll choices in the other thread.  Headscratch

Not that we need to go there, but how do you figure no roads around Montery?  There's Carmel Valley Road, Hwy 1, Alices Restaurant (ask the bay area riders) and Skyline Blvd., Naciemento-Ferguson Rd., as well as all the roads just on the east side of the coastal range but not quite at Hwy 101. Headscratch So whaddya mean no roads?

If we're going to Alice's we'd be better off staying in Santa Cruz.  Hwy 1 is really boring between Monterey and SC.

Nothing against AMA races or Alices (never been there)...
...But for a meet, I'd rather we create our own event than to glom onto some existing m/c scene.

We're not that boring are we? :lol

Seriously Alice's what?

Alice's is not the greatest place to base a STN weekend.
1. Too familiar to many of us.
2. Too many cops and squids on weekends.
3. Not really enough riding to keep you busy for a whole day (or weekend for that matter.) Unless you want to ride on freeways to get other places. (Mt Ham, Hwy 1, 25, etc)

OTOH, if you just want to make the scene and ogle bikes, it's good.

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting we base the weekend there.  Someone mentioned going there from Monterey and I wanted them to know about the 45 minutes of Razz between Monterey and Santa Cruz on hwy 1.
