I am considering this bike I found on Craigs list. KBB says it's worth about $3450 ... He's asking $5500 ... what say you guys?

Hi Carl, I became 'Sport' after the forum crash.  The bike looks good even at that price.  Shouldn't have to do anything to start touring on it, except for maybe a new seat.  I've noticed lately that CBX prices are on the rise.  There must be a dozen on ebay trying to get what they can.  Take a look there or try making a lower offer to see what he'll say.  Am taking mine with over 81,000 on it out to Colorado and maybe GNP again this summer.  Great touring bike!

All I can say is it's a beautiful bike  Inlove One of my all time favorites.  I don't know anything about what the price should (or shouldn't) be.  Good luck!

Nothing sounds as good as a cbx!! mmmmmm!!    good luck!  I'd love one....

as for the handling.I remember riding them......seems back then of course  they were big in comparing it to the  F model and others that were the basis of  superbike racing at the time..No it wasnt as good, but just fine for a daily driver..especially for a guy who doesnt profess to be "mr racer"  and just wants to ride........Smile

Wish my '82 looked that good. If this bike is in as good a condition as he's describing and the pictures seem to indicate that, then his asking price might be just slightly high. Not too far out of line. You can get more CBX info at www.cbxworld.com . There's also a website for the International CBX owners association.

Geez, all I said was that site you listed was run by idiots (I've known them for  years and resigned as a Board Admin) and listed a real CBX site.  As far as I know, I do not have a "deeply ate-up, hate filled nerve.", whatever that is?

Cool, Thanks for the responses guys. Sport, I was looking on ebay to get a feel for what they are going for and it seems they are getting more popular. Every one of them was over $7K. Maybe his price isn't out of line. If it's still around when I get back from a 4 day ride this weekend I'll go up and ride it.

Bogie,

KBB has NO bearing on the price of this motorcycle. CBX pricing is reflective of the "baby-boomer" generation buying power, and the low original sales numbers (rarity). The price seems fair in the present CBX market.

A fair price is truly defined as:

What a seller is willing to take, and what a buyer is willing to pay.

as an owner of 2 CBX's , I can tell you your not going wrong. Prices will continue to rise.
While both CBX boards, seems to me the cbxworld.com is a little more active.

Would I take 5500.00 for mine?

As these are collectibles what does this mean concerning tires forks shocks and brakes. What is accepted, what is not, what works? Traxxion Penske? Galfer. Braced swing arm?

I (think) I know what you're saying.  On both of mine, an early and a late model, and as with all older bikes I changed the suspension (Progressive & Koni), brake lines (Galfer SS) (EBC brake pads and an EBC rear rotor on the 82) added fork braces.  As for tires, there are still lots of 18 and 19" tires available.  My 82 has over 81,000 on it and I'm riding it again on a multi state tour this summer.  No probs!
