Bandit questions
«
on:
May 08, 2007, 02:18:37 PM »
After having posted this in the wrong section...here it is again.
Thinking of getting a new Bandit. 1. How effective is the windscreen? 2. Any good sites for aftermarket products?
Thanks,
Sky

And prepare to get punted to
Suzuki
as well.
Windscreens work great, unlike some of suzuki's uglier products.
Lots of aftermarket available to the previous 2 generations of the bike, Dale Walker makes lots of go fast goodies, Corbin has conformal "beetle bags", and there is alot of bling across the pond (Bandits are very popular with customizers in Europe). Some of it is compatiable with the new bike and it won't take long for new stuff to catch up to the 1250.

Zero Gravity makes/made screens. So did Givi. go to
http://www.maximum-suzuki.com/forums/index.php
for more info. It's a great Bandit-centric site.

Windscreens can be very personal things. I went with a 2" taller touring model, and all it did was put the blast in my face. I think the stock screen is quite good. +1 to Maximum-Suzuki, though you have to register.

I found the stock wind screen to be crap, but the Zero Gravity Double Bubble cured that ailment quickly. I use to ride that bick from the coast of NC to New Orleans once a month, so it's comfy for long distance, then I took it to the mountians and rode the piss out of it at Deals Gap, so it handles ok too. (Busa rear shock and RaceTeck fork internals) Then I put it on the track and gave the rice rockets fits with it, so it works ok as a track bike too...........
Only reason I sold it was because my wife bought the Aprilia for me and I did not need two sport touring bikes. I wanted a super sport as well, so I sold it to get the funding for my CBR.
Fantastic, jack of all trades, bike. The Bandit does it all.

How tall are you?
At around 6-2, I'm fine with the stock windshield for shorter (<300mi) days. On windier days, I much prefer it since the shorter windscreen seems to give me fewer control issues. Not that I have control issues. I'm just sayin. The taller one I have is the Zero Gravity Double Bubble, and works great for those cross-country trips.
Aftermarket stuff... well, what do you want? Power Mods? Luggage? Huggers?

If you can imagine it on a Bandit, someone probably has a "kit" for it.

See my other post- I am absolutely geeked with the ZG Sport-Tour windshield. I got it from ZGoutlet.com- they deal in the ZG seconds (minor imperfections). On the Smoke DB I got I can see some slight mist or teeny bubble on one side near the top. When it's on the bike you can't see it unless you get literally a couple inches away and get the light just right. On the clear S/T shield that I have on it now (which for me is awesome), I can't find any imperfection. I would buy another ZG "second" in a heartbeat.
I'm so happy with the ST screen I might sell the DB if you are interested. I really can't see me going back to it...

+1
I had the ZG ST and didn't like it. It provided great wind protection, but was too noisey for my tastes - and yes, I ride with ear plugs. I sent it right back to ZG and they sent me their DB screen. That was six years ago and the DB is still on there. I love it! It's quieter and offers better wind protection than the stocker (for me). It doesn't punch as big of a hole in the airstream as the ST though.

They don't have it for the 1250 yet, but JVM Concept has a
GT Fairing
for the Bandit 1200, with what looks like a manually adjustable windshield.

There's even a thread over there for USD forks as well.

I sure wish Holeshot would lose that crappy frames layout. I pimp their stuff a lot, and I can't bookmark individual pages unless I first pull one out of the site, effectively eliminating the site navigation. What a PIA.
