Cool (and I'm sure cold) cause that is a fun way to roll through from the North.

The largetst motel in Chester is the HI Express, within walking distance of everything we'd need....but it usually books up early for weekends, since there's not too many lodging choices in Chester.
How about a group campground?

I think this would be a great location.  Chester is a neat little town and there are several campgrounds within just a few miles.  Lots of good roads nearby too.

It took me awhile to come around to this, since I ride from Seattle to Tahoe every summer and am more intrigued by the Gold Country (Placerville and thereabouts) than the northern Sierra.

But then...contemplate this.  Up early Saturday to beat the cages to Cal 70, which can have a significant amount of traffic at "normal" times.  Loop from Chester down to Chico on Cal 70 and then ride back over the fabulous Oroville-Quincy highway, a road that Pashnit says every STNer should ride at least once.  Saturday night in Chester with dinner and drinks and bench racing.

That loop is a little over 200 miles, 160 (!) miles of that is twisty black stuff devoid of traffic, with good company and food and drink at the end.

Bring it on.  I'm in.   Thumbsup Thumbsup

I'm seasonally employed in the timber industry.  I get lot's of time off during the rainy months but am busy as hell during the summer (12 hour days, 6 days a week) so I tend to miss out on all the fun stuff that ST.Netter's get to do.

Chester is "do-able" for me.  250 or so miles from my home and I can fit it in over a weekend.  I'll find someone to cover for me for the Saturday work.

Chester is a excellent choice!   Thumbsup

Oroville-La Porte-Quincy HWY is definitely a road that must be ridden. Partially financed by the local lumber companies that desire good roads for their trucks, it is well maintained and almost completely empty of nasty cagers. And the logging truckers have always been polite, at least in my experience.

Oroville Quincy Hwy should be in really good shape for this meet. CalTrans has been busy over the winter. Here is OQ Hwy as of late September '06.

Hey, I was trying to be positive. There is a lot of fresh asphalt on NorCal two-lane highways this spring. By the time the meet rolls around, those roads should be freaking awesome.  Thumbsup

Assuming I am still at my job come September, I'll have plenty of vacation and would be down with this action.

If I'm not, I will have no vacation at all and will stay home and cry.
