After having my B12  ('03 Suz Bandit 1200) for about a month or so, I finally got out with my "wingman" on his FZ1 (an '03 also about a month old for him) for a short ride Saturday.  We did a little spirited riding on the smooth, country roads of western Michigan.
Wow.  This thing is a riot.  I have loved riding it every day, but getting on it a bit was AWESOME!  What a machine- the torque, the power.  I think I have perma-grin now- all I have to do is think about it and I'm grinning ear-to-ear- like right now...
I pick up my racks for the GIVI saddle bags tomorrow and my topcase Friday.  Ready for the serious miles now.  We are planning an Iron Butt (SS1000) next week Saturday (not that I'll need the bags)...
Interesting note- the difference between the B12 and the FZ1- I was ahead until about the ton (or shortly before- who knows), then the FZ1 took over.  Once he got about 20 yards ahead, we stayed the same distance.  Torque vs. HP I guess.  Interesting.  It's great having a wingman with the same mindset.
   Tuesday:  Still grinning!

Yup- My wingman just bought an '03.  It's a 6 speed.  That's the one thing I wish the B12 had...

The Bandit got a 6th gear in the 1250 upgrade (and the smaller Bandits always had 6).

So Red01 why didn't Mother-Zuk put 6 speeds on the 12's?  The Fuel Injection and the 6th gear, Water Cooled and lower torque curve are leaning me to the 1250 for the next bike.  But the $$$ isn't. I would probably have to get rid of the Dual-Sport to upgrade the Streetbike.

#1 reason was because the 1157cc B12 engine was derived from the old 1127cc GSXR & GSX-F engines and they only had 5 speeds.
#2 reason was because the 6-speed gearbox of the 600/750 has a lower geared top gear than the 5-speed and given the torque spread the big bore family had, Mother Suzi didn't feel this motor needed six cogs.

With the even more torque over a larger rpm spread, and lower redline, the new 1250 probably doesn't NEED a 6-speed either, but market forces seem to demand it. (IMHO)

 Hail Hail Thanks.

I Rented a Multistrada in Vegas in March and having the 6th gear was nice, but I really could not use it until I hit 65mph or so.  That baby V-twin did not like being below 4k.  Still fun thou.

I'd have paid good money for a sixth whilst crossing Nevada last summer. We were at about 95 mph/5500 rpm. Fuel econ went from low 40s to low 30s, not to mention the extra wear and tear on the engine.

Ahhh... the B12's biggest weakness... the lack of a 6th gear...

One thing I found- I just did a ss1000 Saturday- with the stock gearing it *really* smooths out between 75 and 80 I thought.  It vibes a little worse between 50-60.

I was going to swap sprockets for better highway running- lower RPM's, but not anymore. Best gas mileage- 48 (55-65 for the tank), worst, 34.6 (75-85 on the superslab).
